Is there a such thing? Can someone take over a route for an existing company or are we garbage men limited to starting our own routes? It is my ultimate end-goal to start a route.

Wrong forum for that, but you can start any collection company you want.
Just like mowing lawns, you find your own customers.
In a place like I live, the government picks the mega company for trash pickup. It is then incorporated into your taxes.ItalianStallion1 Thanks this. -
Thank you for that info. That's about what I figured. What is the correct forum for this type of deal?

You won't win against Waste Management. Piece of #### corporation.
Lalito.1234 Thanks this. -
casella and republic aren’t far behind -
A lot of places trash services are still regulated by the state PUC. If that’s the case where you live then you’d be looking at hearings and stuff to prove that your services are needed in the market and the competition would be there trying to prove that they provide adequate service and there’s no need for anyone else.

You won't stand a chance against big companies
In the city.
Find a town where there's no city trash collection.
That means the people have to take their own trash
To the dump themselves or pay someone to do it for them.
Then it's open competition for trash collection.
Most reliable man wins.
I live in a small town in Texas.
No city trash pick up.
I pay a guy by to pick up my trash every week.
Used to be 2 or 3 different competitors,
But he put them out of business by showing
Up every week, rain, snow or shine.
Which the other guys wouldn't do.
No he basically has the whole town.
He doesn't even have a trash truck.
He's got a dually with a long flatbed trailer
He pulls behind it.
The trailer has a steel cage all the way around it.
About 6 ft high.
He just throws the bags over the top of it.
We're allowed 6 bags per week.
Everything has to be in a trash bag.
So the answer is yes,it can be done.Coffey, ItalianStallion1, Ruthless and 3 others Thank this. -
