If you're an owner operator, do companies like Werner, US Xpress, Schneider, etc. put a limit on how long you can go home for home time?

Would like to do maybe a month out and 2 weeks home if I could. Home time is most important to me

If you pay for your truck and so long as the finance company gets their payments, why not. You don't work for them after all....you are a contractor, not an employee.

at Schneider, you can go home for as long as you can afford to. They just ask that you tell them (roughly) how long it's going to be.

Wow, let's tackle one issue, the word Owner Operator.

As one, you don't work for a company, you lease on to it. People say 'work' just mean lease on to it.

If you are leased to a company, no matter what, you are leased as an independent contractor which means you make your own schedule, you decide what loads YOU take and you can leave any time.

Mr Ridgeline is correct. Let me point out that they will have you sign an operating contract. READ your operating contract. Don't go blindly signing papers.

Since your truck has nothing to do with the company, you do not allow their terminal shops to plug in to your truck ECM. For that matter, dont let those goofy bestards touch your truck.

All of those "company policies" that they wantvthe owner ops to abide by should be listed in the operating contract...thats why it is important for you to read the contract. You hear drivers all the time complaining how awful the company is, how dishonest...yet everything was listed in the contract.

All good points above. I have to ask why you would work for .90¢ a mile or whatever it is at a place like warner when there are so many places you can lease on to and have some control over how much you make and where you run?

    milehunter43 and Jdm5jdm5 Thank this.

So would it be ok and is it typical for owner operators to be leased with multiple companies like werner, Schneider, us Xpress etc.?
