Where did I ever say this was meant to run balls to the wall while taking cheap loads or being leased on taking mileage pay?
That's being assumed and made up, among other things which is frustrating.
If a load pops up paying $1800 to go 350 miles but you can't do it because you're out of hours in the middle of a reset... you're missing out. But if you had another driver in the truck then it wouldn't be an issue.
Is that so difficult for everybody to understand?
Owner Operator leased onto a company that trains noobs, can you train also? How so?

I understand exactly what you are trying to convey, my point is simply this,,
no one is going to drive and care for your truck like you will, no one else will be able to perform to your standards, you cant make all the money in the world, you need time to stop and smell the roses, you will burn out quick doing what you are talking about, it will make an old man out of you quick,
I understand where you are coming from, you are young, fill of pee and vinegar, and have the attitude that if youre gonna be gone , youre gonna be rollin.
I was once you, believe it or not, I am simply telling that after 35 years of this, it will take a toll on you. in the long run slow and steady will get you further.
you are now convinced I am jerking your chain no doubt and arguing for the sake of argument, actually far from it, the exact opposite in fact.
when the truck stops, you simply rest , or find something in the area to do. take that down time, it is needed.
and I get that mileage mentality statement by your words, " the more miles I run, the more money I make" . I myself strive to run the least possible amount of miles per week for the highest revenue. that keeps costs low and profits higher. it is possible to get so concerned with making money and moving loads that one begins to pick loads just to keep moving.
the reality is becoming a truck owner involves a lot of decisions and time especially for a new truck owner. the last thing a guy like that needs is a completely noob driver to train , look after , and worry about screwing up the truck.
it will come with time behind the wheel, you will slowly see what some of us are saying.
but one thing for you not to worry about is being normal, you are normal. you don't listen to anyone, I didn't either when I was your age. I just wish I would have now and saved myself some trouble.
let me make a guess, you are still riding with something or haven't been out of training long , and thinking if you could run those kind of miles on a percentage contract you would come out like a bandit?SMTatham and exhausted379 Thank this. -
I know money isn't everything if you're stressed out and burnt out all the time. What's the point of money if you have a heart attack before you turn 30? lol
I was just curious and wanting to expand my mind in different areas.. thus the question.
Actually I have one year experience, after being with a terrible low paying company for a few months I jumped ship and went to Crete and it was for .43CPM with less than a year experience.. am now at .44
However it is what it is, being an OTR company driver which isn't the smartest decision to stay in long.
I have no wife or kids thank god.
Anyway I'm probably going to go into LTL linehaul soon, seems to be the smartest thing to do.
Even that I wouldn't want to be doing forever either.. just one step at a time. -

And keep learning.....keep an open mind....and LISTEN to the likes of skateboardman when he dispenses some wisdom. You'll do OK. And don't fall for every bit of supertrucker advice you hear on XM radio either. Skateboardman has given more nuggets to you in this thread than 6 months of Kevin Rutherford Shows!!skateboardman and freightwipper Thank this. -
However I can say now I'll never ever do no L/P for some flat rate mileage garbage pay, no way jose. Not in this lifetime or the next. -

If I'm patient enough I know I know just save up money and buy my own truck.
Buy a pre-emissions truck, with no computers.. screw California.. haul a flatbed and say no the cheap freight lol.
That's the way to do it
