In my experience, the mom & pop truck stops have fuel priced LOWER than the big mega-corp chains. The big mega-corps work out bulk buying deals with the big chains, so they pass on any "loss" to the independent driver not privileged enough to enjoy the same bulk discount through higher prices.
The only downside is that the independent fuel stops usually have a time stamp on the receipt, whereas the chains do not. If you are running legal, or if you pay for fuel with a company fuel card, then it really doesn't matter one way or the other if there is a time stamp on the receipt...but in a pinch, and if you pay for your fuel yourself, you pay for the privilege of not having a time stamp on the receipt when you go to a chain truck stop.
