Hi there. Im about 3 months into being an O/O and wanted to ask you guys about payments. I get a rate confirmation sent to me, and I realise it is a legal document but how can I be sure that it hasn’t been altered in any way between me and the broker? I trust my dispatcher 100% but I’ve always wanted to know this since I’ve heard some pretty bad stories.
My second question has to do with rates. I use DAT to keep informed on averages throughout the nation. If for example I am getting rates lower than what DAT says is average consistently for week, should this cause me to be concerned? How much should I hold myself to standards on such sites? Even though I trust him I can’t help but be paranoid because theres just so many variables. Can you guys help me out with any info? Thank you.

Call the broker and ask what the rate is. He doesn’t know that your dispatcher sent you a rate sheet and see if it matches.

If I was worried about being shorted by the one I was leased to I would not be leased there .
If you are paranoid about pay then you go crazy in this business !!!
One of the reasons to lease to someone is to take the worry about pay away .
As for hauling for less than the average rate that one is on you .
Tell your dispatcher or whatever catchy title they are using what money you need to move your truck for and if they cant deliver the freight then cancel the lease and find a company that can .
Of course these and just my opinions and not having all the facts they as worthless as a politicians promise .
good luck in the struggle !!snowwy and Nothereoften Thank this. -
Work for a Mega? You’re being shorted. Period, end of story.
Most of the Mega carriers have an in-house but seperate brokerage business.
They take their cut, pass it to your company, they take their cut, you get yours. And it’s all perfectly legal. -
The DAT load board average rates are for lanes and not exactly for regions, and they change over time. For example, you can find a load going from Minneapolis to Los Angeles paying 4,000 and another load some 50 miles from Minneapolis paying 5,000. Both loads are very similar in miles, but have different averages.Nothereoften Thanks this. -
