I am wondering how much money it would take to be an owner operator with a nice truck. If there is any of you out there I would love some feedback. Maybe list some salaries, expenses, and just some of the joys and pains of having your own truck. I have some extra money and I am wondering how much exactly it costs to have run a newer truck and pay all of its expenses along with all the other expenses of owning a truck. The trucks I am looking at are of course something like a Peterbilt 389 or a Kenworth W900. They are my favorite trucks and it is my dream of driving the country in one of these trucks. Any input from you guys would be great

    thanks

Depends on how much of your social life you are willing to sacrifice for a while.
just accept now that you will probably have to drive someone else's entirely unappealing beatermobile for a few years..

take what I say with a grain of salt, But around 60k in startup costs not including the truck.

That's a whole heck of a lot. Would you mind sharing what all these costs might be?

    60k? dang what you running?
you can get truck trailer insurance authority everything from 0 to rolling for well less than 60k, now if you wanting a new truck new trailer and all the pretty boy bells and whistles you talking 6 figures then

Not all pretty boy stuff just enough to make good money. I'm wondering about a new truck over a used one though because of less repairs but it would cost more. Or would a used one be better that I have to stick money into? Trying to make money but look respectable at the same time

anything that doesnt use DEF and if you wanting look a certain way then your in the wrong mindset, remember movie GREASE? "takes more than a coat of paint to make it on thunder road" id take a junk looking truck mechanically sound over im looking good anyday, maintenance costs is where alot of O/O fail but thats mostly due to neglect, buying used and getting oil test done before purchase can save you from a headache, lots of variables in getting started

Those are all very very good points I will keep them in mind. Everybody can dream about their dream truck tho and I was just wondering if anyone on here has a similar situation to what I listed

I prefer to not have to get by the skin of my teeth when on any financial endeavor... If you can get started and be successful for the first year for less then im certainly happy for you.
