Threads like this make me glad I stayed a company driver. I retired 3 years ago. I started driving in '99, but had a couple of self employment jobs before I started driving. I always put as much as I could afford into Roth 401ks and regular 401ks to take advantage of free company match. I survive on $79k per year with no payments. Own my home in a metro area and a cabin on 182 acres.
Occasionally in the future I will get income from timber cutting on property and start distributions from regular 401k. I'll leave the Roth 401ks to my step kids.

Well, I wouldn't want to be in Toledo right now. Stellantis( what a stupid name) announced, they are laying off almost 1200 workers, effective immediately. This coming after only 1 month from agreeing to a new contract from the union. I'm no union man, but "have a nice day" indeed.

I might as well ruffle some feathers… Things have been ok the 1st half of the year but the last 6 mouths or so all the window lick’n re-tards that bought a over priced truck a few years back and now can’t survive in the 1.50 per mile freight world. Are trying to get in to the specialized trucking and cutting the rates and F’n it up now too..Bunch of bogger eaters anyhow

What do you mean? Trucking must be great when you see guys from VA and SC out in NE pulling trailers for Hauxwell. Lol.

I lost my last broker. I was told they had to negotiate a new rate and lost. I don't know if I believe it or not. That's what I was told last year by another broker.
I didn't use a load board this year except for only a month. But my connections are now dry. So, I do need another plan. The renewal for me comes in February, my fifth year. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I was surviving this long. Now, it's going to be even harder unless I find something new to do.
