owner operators over the road: is the lower fuel prices helping you out

    In a 'truckload circumstance' Yes, I agree it simplifies things..But If you move freight on Weight (Flatbed) or LTL, Always go CWT on Flatbeds plus fsc,and LTL you have a freight class plus break plus surcharge..

    Hauling a van or reefer..Just Bill it on a truckload rate 'All Inclusive"

    Yes, but when he stops getting surcharge his operating cost is much lower per mile.

    So its still cheaper

    If you fuel cost is zero something is wrong.


    Had a friend who had a pump & hose under his sleeper & he would pull up to truck stops or other places at night time when closed, pull the cap, stick his hose in filling up his 2 150 gallon tanks. Him & some of his buddies also pulled up to trains & stole fuel.


    His fuel cost was zero but he got caught down south of Indio, CA & thrown into a jail house with some thrugs & got beaten up & that really upped his price for fuel.

    you got a math error at 4.00 a gal you say your fuel surcharge would be 45 cents but on the last line you say it would 60 cents, the actual 45 cent fsc would negate the 15 cents extra.

    I think the avg for all miles would be more helpful, that's gives the real picture. cause you buy fuel and use the truck for all of em.

    and is that with own authority, leased, your trailer, makes bit of difference when comparing notes

    my math is right I said ""my fuel COST would be .45cpm and my FSC would be .60cpm....... fsc .60 - fuel cost .45 = .15 cpm PROFIT

    If your hauling on the spot market no need to worry about fuel surcharge but if you have customers with long term contracts the fuel surcharge is set up so that the load pays the same (based on a 6 mpg truck) no matter what fuel prices do.

    if your still paying $3 per gallon you need to find a fuel program such as NASTC. I paid $2.36 in Slidell La and in Grand Bay Al last week. Will know in the am what I paid today. And that is getting it from the TA.
