Regulations and laws just lead to more of such. I'm a, new to the industry, trans manager for a carrier in AZ. And part of my job is to find work for the 6 guys and 4 sleepers I run. I have found that researching into the exporting businesses of states can lead you to a direct contact that will be more than happy to contract a carrier or O/O to haul their wares. It just takes time and patience. I have found that suppliers fall to brokers out of desperation and really don't care for them either. The last factory I contacted asked if I was a broker right off. And made it clear that it was better not to be. It would be nice to look at the load boards and find that backhaul adn then not laugh at what a broker believes you can live on. The only way I see that happening is good old capitalism.

I am sure we will never stop these dirt balls from living on the shirt tails of the ''working man/woman''..But i have my price to haul loads. If they can not give me my ''price'',i stay home and enjoy my life.If every driver did what i did,RATES WOULD GO UP..!!!!.
What we have is a ''needy'' problem in the drivers today. Most of these people have no business owning trucks. The ''real'' issue is that DRIVERS are Needy and Desperate running on NO CAPITAL..From the get go,they had no money to even buy a truck...Sorry,i call it the way i see it..I had $50,000 i saved before i ever entertained trying to get into a ''business''.
I am not needy nor desperate. What a wonderful feeling it is not be a slave to CHEAP FREIGHT....I am blessed that the old timers taught me the wonderful business of trucking. This week i ran 3 days and grossed out over 4,000..Why you ask.?..Because i waited at home till the ''good stuff'' came...I did not allow Neediness,Fear and Desperation to run my business..I get paid very well for my services.Ranger Bob and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
If you talk to some old timers who drove before deregulation, they made some big bucks.
Seems like we're either screwed by big gooberment or big business. The end result is
the same. I'm for sensible regulation ( whatever that is). -
Truckers went on strike in the 70's and got pretty tough. Big gooberment stepped in and says we'll
show you who's boss. I think they use truckers as guinea pigs, to test how much and fast they can
control the rest. -
i think all owner operators should be forced to pull for Swift alone, or else be put out of business. All trucking companies--Knight, Werner, Schneider--they all should be converted to separate divisions of Swift, or be shut down under penalty of uhhh.. death.

well. Since no one else has said it.... i will.... If your dumb enough to haul it for that cheap. Then so be it. odds are you shouldn't be in business anyways. Kudos to the broker for getting a steak dinner.
