Worker’s compensation insurance is not required for business owners to carry on themselves in most states. The assumption here is that the business itself will continue to make a profit for the owner even if the owner personally is unable to work due to an injury. Obviously this thinking works better for a restaurant or clothing store than it does for the owner operator of a trucking company, and that’s where occupational injury insurance comes in. It however usually does not pay anything other than a lump sum based on the severity of the injury thus it is much less expensive than a normal Worker’s Compensation insurance policy
Owner ops are you buying worker comp insurance for yourself?
