I am looking for a good company to start with. Does anyone have any information about P.A.M. Is there school any good? Do they make promises upfront and screw you over later? Is the pay they promise really what you get - have little boy at home and need to make sure money will be there?
Thanks for the help. Be Safe & God Bless

I've posted this before, I worked 2 years for PAM. I made a little over 40,000 in the 1 whole year. I ran so illegal. They are real easy on logging, you can get by with almost anything. I quit in July. Since then the freight has really slowed down. I talked to a PAM driver the other night, he said they weren't hiring right now and that he was getting real good miles. BUT, most PAM drivers are full of **it, you know, rookies acting like big shots. I rarely see a current driver posting on here.
I'm glad I got my start with them. I had a great time.
You'll be gone for a month at a time and that will be hard if you have a little kid at home. OTR trucking is more of a lifestyle than a job, but I understand you having to earn money too.
Their schooling is just to get your CDL, most all companies prehire you. You go to school and sign the contract. Then they do your background check and see if they want to hire you. Then you go out with a trainer for 4 weeks. I had a great trainer, a driver for 22 years. It was tough trying to sleep in a moving truck.
Got any more questions, just post them. Or do a search PAM on these forums. -
PAM is a good company. Like Tucker, I got my start with them back in '03 and stayed with them until 2005. I made decent money and they never once said something to me that didn't happen. Well, a couple of dispatchers tried that but they were quickly replaced.
Unfortunately, things are really slow with them right now. They do a lot of runs for GM, and since they're hurting right now so is PAM. I recently got an email from a friend of mine who is still with them and is also a trainer. He said that the student he trained right before Thanksgiving hadn't got a truck yet, and this was around the middle of January.
As Tucker alluded to, they are on a hiring freeze right now.
I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom, but I'm really concerned about the state of trucking as a whole. With this current economic crisis being what it is, we're really feeling it out here on the road. So far this year I've only made about $2300 as a company driver. In 2007, I made that in the first 2 weeks of January.

Scarecrow, I miss the Red Door and Mcarthy's (up at Bridgewater) the most.

The Red Door was a cool place. I never went to McCarthy's, though.
