My loading appointment was 0600. Got there around 0545 and checked in. The shipping guy said they were changing shifts, but to drop the trailer in door 16 and the next shift would start loading it probably in an hour or so. I asked why they would give me an 0600 appointment... but that is so common. Nothing unusual yet.
At 0700 I peeked out to check on things, and my trailer was out of the door, and another trailer was in door 16. SO, I got out of the truck and saw my trailer sitting in the line... with its doors open! I went inside, and stood in line to talk to the new shift leader. While I am standing in line, they take the trailer out of door 16 and put mine back in. I finally got to the front of the line and the shipping girl said "Nobody told me that was a live load. We figured it was a trailer that had finished being UNloaded!" She said they would start right away and have me loaded within an hour. I went back to the truck, and kept checking the light on the dock. Red. Red. Red... until finally, after two hours, I went inside. "Oh you've been done for a while! We were about to send someone out to get you!" "So why is the dock light still red?" Universal shrug.
Bottom line - three hours to get out because they couldn't/wouldn't communicate. I have had similar experiences at other places, but this one took the cake - especially with the attitude of total lack of caring that we are on a schedule.![]()

It's happened to me many times over the years. I just stay on top of the loading/unloading. You can peek inbetween the trailer doors and load dock to see if there's any activity going on. Or count the number of times the forklift goes in and out of your trailer while sitting in your truck. But, do stay on top of the dock people, because they know if the driver goes to sleep, they can push you back and do something else. (you're sleeping, so what do you care).
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
It was one of those places you have to drop the trailer and park elsewhere. You can only see the lights... and wait for it to go green. The truly exceptionally stupid thing was taking the trailer out of the door because they thought it had been unloaded, when it was a live load! Talked to several drivers who go there often, and they hate when this shipper comes up on their load because it is always a boondoggle! Yeah, we get used to it... but this board as I understand it is for bad experiences at shippers.

Sounds like a craptastic kind of place. Hey drop your trailer, we'll have ya done in 10mins max! 3hrs later (crickets chirping) i check on my trailer, it's not in the door.. (about to cuss) It's in the drop yard.. You ask Shipping.. Why is my trailer in the drop yard? Cause we just unloaded it...
