i been driving a 2012 pete for 2 weeks with the 485 paccar im very impressed over all fuel millegis 5.4 seems powerfull u gotta keep it up on the rpm tho if not instead of grabbing half a gear you gotta grab a full one
-
Boss just bought 5 of them, first day out all five had the check engine light come on! Guess we'll see where it goes from here?
Gotta say, I like my ISX..............
-
I'd say this mix of PLD and electronically controlled nozzle (like ob CRD) is a good idea how to make fuel system simple but accurae for new Euro/EPA requariments... The only problem with this engine I have now is thing wiring, easy to brake wires.
-
cummins is best N-14 then ISX then detroit... dont know much about the Paccar or Internationals Maxx force engines though...
-
I have an ablity to know becouse there are many DAF 105 with MX running over here.
Maxx id from Germany, it is D28 engine by MAN, it is new CRD technology... seems to me all new class 8 trucks will be with Common rail soon. -
Not sure what your operation is, but if the Paccar engine can only pull out a 5.4 mpg, then I won't ever be buying one. For what I do and where I do it, if an engine can't get over 7 mpg average (not talking about -20F weather with winds of 30 mph here), then it needs to be gotten rid of. I have averaged at or above 7 mpg for at least the last 15 years with various engines, mostly Cummins and Detroits. Of course, the gearing in the one you are running could be not matched correctly to the engine for what you are doing. That could explain it.
Just bumped into another O/O at my carrier that just ordered a new Pete with the Paccar engine. I'll see how it works for him. -
We have those engines in dafs over here, those engines won't make half a million miles nevermind one million, I'm speaking from experience, I owned two of them, bought two new ones in 2003, one made 230,000 kms and the second 540,000 kms, that's kilometres not miles ! I know plenty of people here with the same experience, if they don't blow up before 600,000 kms they will be worn out, even newer engines are having the same problems, stay far away from them, absolute crap,

2003 engine is xe 12.6 litre daf engine which is strong apart of rear cylinder head cracking.
Mx is 12.9 litre from 2006 on and not as good as older xe -
Even worse? Mine the rings and pistons needed replacing , in fact a full rebuild, first 230.000 kms second 540,000kms, I've heard Alot about heads cracking too, valves dropping, bad engine, pity because it's a nice truck to drive
