I've been told by mech's that the jake on on the Paccar MX is not a real jake. WTF is it, then? It's certainly not as effective as a Cummins jake. And it sure as heck doesn't SOUND like a jake. I can barely hear it.
Barely.
Can the computer be adjusted so it can work better? Or am I stuck with it?
Give me a brake...

So it is a real "Jake".
Noise means nothing.
What revs are you at when you use it? -
It's not a jake if its an MX motor ,its a paccar built brake. The man who owned Cummins designed and built the original Jake brake , therefore only Cummins has it. The moniker Jake Brake is used as a term only. It's the same as people who say big Mack truck. Of course those days are far and few between. Heheheh

Here's a link to their website and their clients.

Both Paccar and Cummins are client with them.
If you click on the Paccar name on that webpage,it will explain their 15 y relationship.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
until i meet daf engine brake , it really impressed me hold very very good , not strong like retarder to be able to brake truck but can hold , some examples: 8% 4mille highway with 40metric ton- 88000lbs with 70kmh (43.4mph)in 7L gear at about 1550rpm ,9% 6mille downhill on winding mountain road hold 62kmh(38.5mph) in 6H gear at 1650rpm , that is version of engine brake with one step , i dont know if my thinking is right but i think those with automated gearbox have all 2steps and they are more powerful , this engine brake make about 320kw new one make 360kw only volvo veb+ is better in this 13L class
we have worst roads than this there are roads where you need to be in 5H gear or even 5L if you are heavier than 100 000lbs
worst single hill here is 8mile 10% , montenegro and bosnia have very very bad roads they have hill down hill up and again because of poor road infrastructure and more difficult topography
because of that even daf recomend to not buy retarder ,because of difficult conditions there are some problems, heat exchanger overheat and cracks , rubber hoses are very sensitive and most of daf trucks dont have retarder here

I'm just sayin'...
It'll hold doing 40 or 35 down either side of the Grapevine. But not, say, doing 50 over the Donner. -

Ok, now I'm really confused...
