Any remarks on the MX Paccar engin. Has Paccar had a good reputation in the past?

Stay far far away is my advice ! iv had dealings with them over here in Europe terrible shame daf was bought out by paccar and the dodo hit the fan ! trail through a few threads and the general consensus is very unreliable even the dealers in Europe are scratching their heads ! must be a ##### trying to sell a rubbish product !!!! although they do sell them to the big company's in large numbers, but no doubt with special back up service ! ask the dealers about all the issues with them and they mumble things call it all rubbish and rumors while unable to look you in the eye !! they have weak heads dropping valves, water problems ie leaking using running hot cold ! unusual piston and major liner wear at very low mileage and they all seem to love alot of oil ! running on 10,40 fully synthetic, starts to work out very exspensive after a while,as i said anybody thinking of buying anything paccar powered be very careful . I hope this helps , and saves someone getting very burnt fingers

I called the Peterbilt dealer just to see what new 389s are going for in my area. He tried to steer me towards the MX engine but I told him I have heard not too good things about it. Sure, it might beat the cummins in MPG a bit but my business model does not run on the lowest cost. It runs on the best service. I would not buy that engine. To me, when the time is right for a NEW truck, the choice will be either cummins or detroit. Most likely cummins.

Yup seen all those problems with them and had alot of them with my own, one of mine made 130,000m approx before a full rebuild and the legendary backup service wouldn't cover it, second and last one lasted not much longer, fully agree with you!
