The whole supply system is getting worse, not better. As of September 15, there were 61 loaded container ships off shore Los Angeles /Long Beach waiting to unload. No place to put the containers. No chassis to put them on. No trucks to haul them. No trains to haul them inland. No warehouses to put stuff in.

    It's getting into the absurd.

And much of that will be luxury items instead of the kinds of things we actually need.

Still no release date for the computer fix from Cummins. What a bunch of suckers.

Its not even a Cummins supplied part. I assure you they are in no hurry to do anything.

    More Paccar propaganda……

    UPDATE! UPDATE! 9/21/2021

    ******************************************

    STATEMENT FROM PACCAR:

here is a quick update that summarizes the latest information we have. As we discussed, you can share this information with whomever you like.

The global computer chip shortage has been adversely affecting many suppliers over that past 6 months, including many or our sensor suppliers. PACCAR and Peterbilt have been working tirelessly to shore up additional computer chips to get our suppliers back on line and as of this morning, PACCAR has received just over 8000 Urea Quality Sensors (UQS) for service replacements with more expected in the coming days. We are working around the clock to get those out to dealerships that have trucks that are down. As many people also know, we have been working with various government agencies to validate and approve engine software alternatives that allows the truck to operate temporarily with a failed UQS sensor. While is our strong preference to install good replacement parts, we have been working aggressively on the engine software alternatives as a backup if replacement parts are not available. The tentative schedule for software availability is as follows:

    MX software:
o Engine model years 2017 and 2018 without PTO is scheduled on 9/22, with PTO on 10/18

o Engine model years 2019, 2020 and 2021A without PTO is scheduled on 9/29, with PTO on 11/1

o Engine model year 2016 (with and without PTO) is scheduled on 10/11.

    Cummins software:
o Engine model years 2017 through 2021 will be available on PACCAR Products on 9/22. Per Cummins, their releases will start with the X15 and 9L (7L will be 21 only, other years to follow a week or so after).

A Peterbilt service bulletins will be released tomorrow (43-071) with the details on how to request, install and remove the temporary software calibration along with instructions on how to claim reimbursement through warranty.

Cummins will also be releasing a TSB (210187) and a TRP (T2488) that coincide with the PACCAR service bulletin.

Here are a few more key talking points:

    - Should PACCAR not be able to secure a replacement UQS sensor and the engine calibration software is needed to get a truck up and running, PACCAR will be covering the installation and removal costs of that calibration. The replacement sensor costs will fall under standard warranty. For most trucks the warranty on the UQS sensor is 10 year 435,000 miles for PACCAR engines and 1 year 100,000 miles for Cummins.

    - The requirements as stipulated by the government agencies are that only a truck with a known bad sensor, where a replacement part is not available, is eligible for the revised software calibration. PACCAR had to commit to a very robust tracking mechanism to ensure the government that any truck that received the revised calibration would be tracked for a future recall to reverse the process; hence the need to develop rather elaborate diagnostic and tracking strategies as outlined in our service bulletin.

    - In the Cummins announcement last week during their initial software release, they used language that said that PACCAR “Opted out” of the software solution. This is not true: We had to get our diagnostic and tracking systems in place that are well outside of our normal processes to ensure that we can meet all of the requirements listed above.

    - The software solution is not a perfect solution, which is another reason why PACCAR’s strong preference is to install a known good part versus an engine recalibration. The revised calibration will eliminate the sensor from the truck’s internal diagnostics and control systems; however that comes at the expense of rendering the Urea level sensor and temperature sensor inoperable as well (it’s all in the same sensor).

For any truck that receives the revised calibration it will be imperative that the driver keep the Urea tank full at every fill up to mitigate running the tank empty and causing further damage.

How technically savvy are you? Can you build a simple circuit board and load a program into it? Here is a link to a work around for your motor and how to do it. You're definitely not alone, my mom's company has 10 Pete 567's with MX 13's down right now because of this stupid sensor. I'm gonna build an emulator this weekend for one of them using the connector and cable from my old sensor & see if I can make it work on one of theirs.

The software that is available in the link is for Cummins engines. If you think this fix is beyond your skills, let me know. I will hook you up for the cost of the boards and parts from amazon, shipping & $100 to program and build it. I will also need you to remove the sensor cable and intact connector from your bad unit and send it to me so I can build your emulator. There are a pair of screws on the top of the sensor where the cable runs into the UQS unit, remove the cover and disconnect the wires, then screw the cover back on.

They got my sensor in yesterday. Looks like my vacation is over. The time off was a nice break, I didn’t realize I needed a vacation until I was on vacation. I flew to Tacoma and drove a truck back that my friend bought, the rest of the time was spent camping and riding my bike.
