Hi All, looking to get some feed back on Paccar engines vs Cummins. What is your preference and why? Majority of the inventory out there is equipped with Paccar.
Thanks

All I know is that it's based off the Cat block and it's been neutered big time. I have heard too that they are better than Cummins as far as fuel economy. The other benefit you have is the Paccar engine weighs like 2k pounds less.
TexasQM Thanks this. -
They may be more fuel efficient but performance wise I have heard that it has spent more time in the garage than the road.thoughts?

I dont have any first hand experience ... But when the day comes I would buy the cummins ... The mx is still very young, you don't know what might go wrong with it. Also not all dealerships are certified to work on the mx. With the cummins at least you know your problems will likely be egr cooler, egr valve, turbo ... And more shops can work on it. I have a hard time believing the weight difference is more than a few hundred pounds, at most.

Your screwed with both engines. All the new engines are junk, it's a roll the dice kinda thing. EGR valves, EGR coolers, Turbos, TurboActuators, DPF systems, these are the 10s of thousands of dollars you will spend sometimes yearly on these trucks. It's just the facts on these new engines.
You might get lucky. You'll here one guy tell you his is great, the next 5 guys will tell you the engine is making them go broke.
Trust me, the warranty does not cover the payment when it's in the shop 1 week a month.ShortBusKid, Johny41 and gokiddogo Thank this. -
Who told you it's "based off the Cat block"??? LOL A guy at the lunch-counter??? They are essentially DAF engines.......European designed etc. Been around awhile LOL.........but new in North America. Good gawd......nothin Caterpillar involved!!!!!
As to the OP's question; I would lean to Cummins by a wide margin.rollin coal and SL3406 Thank this. -
I have an MX. It's "ok". I'd probably go with the Cummins in retrospect because if something goes wrong with the MX your pretty much going to a Pete or KW dealer because they have the Davie software to "talk" to the engine. Seems like it would be easier to get service on the Cummins. All that being said, unless you are running CA (I do frequently), I would NOT get a new emissions engine. Buy a glider with a rebuilt 60 series or something along those lines. I will add that even if you're running CA it seems like enforcement is pretty lax, I haven't been checked this year and I've seen a TON of trucks that from outward appearances don't seem to be CARB compliant.

For all Engines now the Best is the Detroit ,only this is my Opinion

The sales guys at the local KW dealer are more optimistic about the newer motors... Then again it is all they have to sell now that we are 7/8 years into DPF'd &/or SCR'd garbage.rollin coal and Ukumfe Thank this.
