Spoke with them some more. They hire as an independent contractor- no benefits. Hours range from 8 hours to days until a job is done. About 30% is driving the rest is hydroexcavation.

Just hear say, but a friend has a friend there in ND as an independent contractor hauling oil not sure with what company but they are slowing down in drilling and trucks are being parked. I will call around on Monday to see the truth in this.
Anyone up there working hearing anything like this?

beau, to your orig question, do you have a block heater on your car? may want one, most newer cars start easily without it but it is cheap insurance. lighter oil in crankcase, follow manuf rec for cold temps, blankets, shovels, boots, gloves and hats in car. jumper cables, new battery. don't wait for the old one to die, they always die on the coldest day when you're far from anything. refer back to the blankets, hats, hope you have them, non running cars get cold fast.
good tires on car. it's not like warm states where you can run tires way passed their "safe" tread and just hope not to get a flat.
other than that take a picture of your car especially if it is in good condition because when the salt gets it, the rust will soon follow.
sounds like they're hooking you up with a good deal if you got housing provided, that's the hard thing to find there right now.
watch your back up there, some unscrupulous characters out there looking to take that easy money. met some folks the other day who found a few squatter's at their house. apparently they though if no one was home that meant the house was theirs.
enjoy winter, it goes by really fast................LOL

Not sure if things follow suit the same in ND as here in Manitoba, but those looking to make the jump to the oilfield, now isn't exactly the most ideal time. Best to get hired on with new company april/may. Spring road restrictions go into effect late march and a very large amount of the hauling will come to a grinding halt until the restrictions are lifted end of may. Though the pro to hauling at this time of year is things have finally froze up and you wont have to fight in the mud and constantly deal with getting stuck numerous times a day, you'll likely only need a push/pull out of a lease once a day now ;)
