His point is to not just spend to save on taxes. Better keep money pay tax still way ahead

 

Kinda depends on your individual situation. Spending some money could drop you into the next lower tax bracket and save quite a bit more than you spent, realistically.

Ie your taxable income shows $1,500 more than the threshold for the next bracket; spend $2,000 and drop you into a. Bracket that lowers your fed income tax 2/3/5%. Which can add up to more than the money you spent.
