I need to paint my rgn in the next year or two. I am going to fix a few cracks and add some tie down points an have it sand blasted and painted. I have seen and used different trailers over the years, some seem to chip real easy, others the paint comes off in sheets, and some it just kind of fades out and chalks off.
    Any recommendations on paint?

Lemme ask my uncle what they use at the trailer shop he works at. He gave us a can to try but I don't remember the name. You can beat on it with a hammer and it doesn't chip or crack. Nice glossy finish

I always used sher kem with a primer. I can't remember the name of that color but they have a real nice gloss black that is beautiful.

That paint is not really expensive compared to other kinds of paint and as long as you mix it correctly and spray it at the right pressure it really comes out nice and it is super durable.

I would not hesitate to paint a trailer or a frame or anything else with that paint. And it is an industrial paint that is made for those type of applications.

    Guessing it’s raven black.
That’s good paint we use many gallon of it at the shop on a lot of construction and farm attachments and things. I thought about using it especially considering the price.
Does it do well with salt?

Won't matter what paint you use if the blasted metal has any dust or oils on it.

It may be too late to the party, but this question got asked recently I think in the regular flatbed forum, and at the time I suggested Hammer Rite or the Rustoleum hammer finish paints. They're industrial and we used to use them for our equipment and accessories.

Hey guys, I recently acquired two 48' trailers that we are refurbishing. I am an artist by trade bit this is a bit outside my wheelhouse. Sides appear to be mdf or particleboard with a white automotive lacquer/enamel coating on top of it. Can anyone give tell me what this application is called in the industry? I was thinking of wet sanding the rust spots and cracks and recoating with... that raven black paint sounded good but I just need to understand my substrate for adherence. Thanks for reading!

We spray many gallons of that paint every year (not all raven black) but that stuff generally sticks well to anything decently clean and oil free. typically we spray on sandblasted steel sometimes just power washed some primed some not although sand blasted and primed works much better in the long term. You need to thin it quite a bit more than what it says on the can to spray decent with hvlp.
We thin it with xylene until it will fling off the end of your stir stick pretty freely.
It drys well in the sun lol takes forever in the cold 684F6E2E-0C1D-4194-99BB-ECB55AD05C2A.jpeg 684F6E2E-0C1D-4194-99BB-ECB55AD05C2A.jpeg 67951045-5979-484F-938E-227F4F3732EA.jpeg 8F85B8CE-088E-4871-B246-3BD432EB58DD.jpeg
I think you would be fine to wet sand and paint over what’s there it is heavily xylene based so could be a problem over the old paint depending on what it is.
We are usually painting off road type stuff so I don’t know how it handles salt
