I like to run about 5000 miles a week. I don't do weekends. Of course, i have to get by the house every day for lunch. And i start work at 8 am and stop for the day at 4 pm.

Why not a guidline (suggestion) instead of a mandate (mandatory)?

34 reset gives enough time for two 8 hour rest periods & some time for activities/chores.

If 24 was to replace the 34 hour reset, you'd only get enough time for one 8 hour rest & some activity. Most people build up a sleep debt during the week. One good rest causes you to begin a new week with last week's sleep debt.

Some drivers are in huge debt or working like a rented mule to buy affection & toys for family they never see. One good paycheck and someone gets a new car with payment for 80 months. They work like a galley slave for so long it seems normal. Don't do that.

If fueling is under 7 minutes that it is simply a flag with no time.

You can still take 34/48 hours if you want. What’s stopping the individual from negotiating their terms with their employers?

I don’t always start pretrip/driving after 10:01 off duty time… Just because I am “legal” to do something doesn’t mean I am ready/safe to do so.

you guys act just because they change something that’s how you have to do it.

The answer to your first question is that most employers tell the drivers how it is and that’s how they do it because they won’t tell them they’re not running like that.

This is one of the few jobs were you have some bargaining power if you have some balls. Don’t have to be rude or anything, but remember how they are quick to blame us if anything happens.

accident, ticket. “Driver didn’t do his pre trip” “driver this, that and the other “

I always facepalm when people say. “The elog protects me from my company making me drive more” :D:D
Just the same as “my gps told me to go this way” . They might believe the AI voice is a real man/woman hahahaahaha.

Lets not be afraid of freedom, and run/do what’s best for you. They can’t force you to do anything.

A few weeks ago I got a new DM because they wanted the regional drivers with the same people instead of scattered around with multiple DM’s and mixed with OTR drivers. He called to introduce himself. I said how I run, when I expect to be home, and when I leave on Mondays. I also made it clear that I rarely get rolling the minute my 10 is up. So far zero issues. I can’t say how they’d handle a company driver saying that, but I’d like to think there’s room to give a little on both sides.

I'm up and at it at 10 hrs and 1 second. Now we don't have to do it that way and many drivers don't because it's pretty laid back here, but that's just how I want to roll. I'm here to work and when that's done I park the truck, don't think any more about it, and go to the house ASAP. The more time I waste after that 10 hour break is up - that just puts me behind getting home on schedule.

As far as fueling on paper logs I hung up the paper logs about 2 years ago but I preferred topping my truck up at the end of every day if possible. And the truck was always full when it sat in the driveway at the house ready to go. Like was said in another post this minimizes condensation forming inside the tanks. The only downside was fuel thieves but I only had fuel stolen once in over 10 years. My fuel ups always matched the exact time on logs I made sure of that even if a lot of other activities didn't.
