Ready to roll at 10 hrs and 1 second also. Fuel where cheapest. Not concerned about time of day because always legal anyway.

Fueling was never about the time of day or start or end of driving shift. We logged 15 minutes. You would adjust the time you started for the day and the time you ended the day for maximum efficiency.

Hills and traffic and bathroom breaks and stopping to eat would destroy your average speed, You’re average speed could never be the same at the speed limit. You always logged 5 mph below the speed limit. All you needed to know was the mileage across the state for every state you drive thru. That used to be part of trip planning when we had big trucker road atlas. The atlas actually has that information but I think a lot of drivers today don’t know how read the maps and you just add all the numbers up.

once you know the miles for the each state and the route you taking and you know the speed limit. You know how long it take to drive across the state.

If you fuel up 1pm-1:15 pm and already drove 300 and the speed limit is 65mph 300/60mph is 5 hour. That means you left at 8am. You did 15 minutes pre trip 7:45-8am.

5 under on the flat land might work.

Unless you got 600 horses and a stick. Ain't no one averaging 5 under in the mountains.

If you fueled 1:00-1:15 pm do you know what time you stopped for the day. All you need to know is the miles. And the speed limit. Today you should probably take 30 minutes to fuel and eat and you would still have 6 hours to drive out of 11 if already drove 5 hours. So you could drive another 360 miles. So you look for truck stop 360 away and that where you plan to stop for the night. You would have 660 miles for the day. Today lots of states you can drive 70mph so you can get better miles 65x11 hours could put you 715 miles a day.

you can also see if you run ELDs today and just drive you can come close to the same numbers and it probably not worth take that risk anymore

That’s why you always logged 5 mph lower. You also had to do it for the states that were 55 like California and Ohio and Illinois. If you were driving I80 across Illinois and Indiana and Ohio you average speed would be be 156 miles for Illinois wound 3 hour at 50mph. 156 for Indiana would be at 55 is 2.83 hour. Ohio was about 228 miles at 50 mph was 4.56 hours. All 3 would be 10.39 hours so just make round that up to 10.5 hours so you always average 5mph under speed limit

156+156+228 is 540 at 10.5 hours or 51 mph average Illinois used to be 60 so it bring you average up just a hair over 50mph
