I read in a thread that is now closed that May didn't hire out of Tennessee, that they won't hire if your more than a certain distance from a terminal, during hometime you have to park at a terminal, etc.
First, I don't know, but I live in Pennsylvania and I just got approved for orientation pending employment verification. Considering this, I'd like to know if they require their trucks to be parked at a terminal, what happens for MY hometime as I'm about 1,100 miles from Pensacola? If I am 1,100 miles from the nearest terminal and still got approved for hire, then there must be drop yards in the PA/NJ area to park in.... or will I be able to bring the truck home with me?
Also, I guess I should ask this as well. When I origianlly talked to my recruiter, she told me (I asked) if there was enough freight to get me home to Eastern PA, and her word was "yes". Is Eastern PA/New Jersey a good freight area for May, or was she just blowing smoke?
I'm going to talk more with my recruiter about this, but I figured I'd try to get the scoop from some drivers as well.

Yeah we have lots of freight going that way. As far as parking goes I think they allow you to take the truck home, you might have to leave it at the nearest truck stop.
Voyager1968 Thanks this. -
They have a fair mount of freight going east, so they should be able to get you home. As for parking- in that area it might be at the closest Truck Stop..Not really sure, i ran the dry (west regional )
You best get the straight scoop from May first hand...Voyager1968 Thanks this. -
Thanks to both of you. The only truckstop close is the Pilot in Drums which is kind of small. We'll see what happens, but for now, I'm glad to know there is good freight in the area.

i have a similar situation, i'm planning to move back up to Wa state in about a year, which Opel said was fine, now the nearest May yard is in Oregon, about 160-200miles from where i'll be living, (i'll be running 11 western) would i be able to bring my truck home or does May have a harsh rule about this? the nearest truck stop is over 30miles away.

May has a drop yard in Auburn, Wa that guys use to park their
trucks for hometime. if you live close it would probably go
there. if you live out of the area, then something else would be planned. -
I live in Nor-Cal and i had to park my truck in the Yolo drop yard.
It was about 100 miles to my house and a 2hr drive, I was not
allowed to take my truck home .

Voyager, the recruiter isn't pulling your leg. They don't want to take the chance of not getting you home if you don't live near the freight lanes. That is why is sucks for drivers in Florida. Not a lot of freight. If there isn't any freight than the company would have to pay for you to deadhead home and then deadhead to where ever you can get a load. When my wife and I owned our truck we would sometimes leave it in Atlanta instead of deadheading to fl. It was way cheaper to pay for gas in the car than fuel in the truck. Was faster too and we didn't have to run logs. There are thousands of companies that run PA though so if not May then you still have options. My friend drove for May and said they were a decent company. There are also storage places and truck parking lots besides truck stops. Some companies do not want you to leave the truck at a truck stop. Too much crap can happen. Like the truck not being there when you get back, for starters, or your bumper may be gone too! Truck theft is high in Pa. My friend had her rig stolen in Pa and her dog was in it. They ended up switching tractors though and the cops found it with the dog ok. It is definitely worth paying the $100 a month for good secure truck parking. Also to those who live a ways from where your truck is going to be parked, many times you come home under a load and will need to check on that load every couple of hours. Especially companies like May that run reefers. You can just leave them and hope for the best. So I recommend finding something close to your home or you will be sleeping in the truck.

just got off the phone with Opal at May, she told me that May does not allow the trucks to go home with the drivers, she said there are a few people who have exceptions i guess but that May does not allow you to take your truck home, Period.
