$100 cash yeah, I could see that. $600, na. Call the police. If there’s nothing saying not to park there and I’m in the truck, which I would be, we’re getting cops involved.

I say this not to be an ### but in my house $600 goes a long way lol.

If it’s legit the cops are just gonna say pay it and leave. If it’s not though, well now they know about this possible scam going on.

I have to second this. As one who did impounds in N. Va , DC, and MD, the rule was always if there is no signage we had to give it back. Not sure if that's the case everywhere else, I always assumed it was. I think I would have told him to get the law then. Law says pay, I'll pay it. An if not as another said, lest they know about the scam.

Maybe the signage was hidden? Sucks though someone would do that to someone. When I did impounds it was usually people being stupid. Pulled over for DWI/U, parked in permit only spots, fire lanes, parked on private property, etc. etc.

Like I said above, that sucks if there truly wasn't any signage.

Better luck to ya in the future.

Did I mention I tried to negotiate with the guy? When I offered a hundred cash on the spot he got furious and mean like I was the bad guy here.
I'm lucky I'm small. I might have needed bail money too...

Bottom line is trucks are "easy money" for anyone with "authority" who wants to push their luck with a truck driver who may or may not be having a bad day. Sooner or later it'll come down to a shoot out if they continue this practice. The one's applying the boot probably are "authorized" to do so [by the property owner] less then half the time.

This sort of thing will continue to increase as time goes on. More trucks, more out of hours, more desperate on eLogs, more colluding between corrupt parties. It's a perfect storm to separate truckers from their cash.

But if you decide to call them out, be ready for anything. They will be armed so keep that in mind. Use overwhelming force of offensive action, or pay the man. But I agree about remaining in your truck and calling the police. Maybe that alone will make the situation go away, or maybe not, but at least you create the situation that may make the guy back off knowing he's not exactly legally and rightfully acting on you.

Where I have my trucks parked in Detroit, something seems to happen all the time by illegal parking lot people or something like having a car towed and held for ransom.

Last year I had seven vehicles held for ransom by some clown tow company. They threaten me and a couple of my drivers with being arrested by the cops and it almost turned nasty. When the owner of the property came by to see what was going on, he was threatened too with being arrested after he told them to get off his property.

These idiots had the balls to call the cops so the cops came, they told the towing idiots that they will be charged for theft and fraud, leave quickly unless they want to get arrested. They left quickly without removing the boots. So the cops told us to cut the boots off the trucks and pickup trucks, which was done and they went to the scrap man.

I thought about summoning police but past experience suggested it would only make it worse. Barney is probably his cousins husband or something.

And if you didn't have the $600?

Most folks don't have that kind of money..Let alone want to give that hard earned money away to a thief..Yeah,Call the Police next time,.....

As the other poster suggested.."$600 goes a long way within a family"........

What comes first- Some towing #sshat, Or your Family?
