Three people were dead because this driver parked on the shoulder.

It doesn’t matter what the law is, three people are dead because this driver parked on the shoulder.

It's true, you really do learn something new every day. ;)

I've never paid attention to which jurisdiction's law appiled, I've just always done it because it's the right thing to do.

Big difference between broke down and taking a 10 hour brake. Also one supposed to be a professional driver and know better.

So if he was broke down it would be OK?

I don't see the difference. Regardless of the reason the truck was there the 4 wheeler left the travel lane at a high rate of speed and if the truck was broke down the result would have been the same.

Not defending the truck drivers idiotic decision to park there, it's not defensible, but it isn't the cause of the crash.

But the idiot did cause a crash by parking there. Had he not been there that car would’ve hit the rumble strip moved back over in the travel lane and went on down the road.

Was that trucker an owner operator or company driver, anyone know? I didn't see anything in that link which indicates either way.

Possibly. Or it may have slammed into the barrier, rolled and caught fire. When they use veered' 'swerved' 'excessive speed' I get the impression the driver may have lost control going around the corner too fast.

I couldn't find Road Transportation listed. However, there is an All Road Transportation in Oregon.
