Had a couple drivers PM me about something I said about pulling into a weigh station well after evening curfew with an oversized load in Maryland. They asked if the DOT knocked on the door in the am or gave me any problems for parking there.

So I decided to post a new thread in hopes that the heavyhaul brethren would share their experiences with parking the big loads at the weigh stations. If you could, please share the location of the scale house. Thanks in advance.

    Sleepy68 Thanks this.

I have never had a problem parking at a weigh station, as osod are usually up and gone at daybreak, they don't hang around like door swingers.

Never had an issue, parked in them from Florida to Cali.....space being the only real consideration. I have pulled in minutes after "Sunset" and got "Reminded About Curfew" but never got cited!

I haven't had a problem pulling and parking in a scale house for the night except for space, but be known this is not my preference of parking spaces.

Was pulling a load out of Denver, going to Iowa. Took all day to get loaded, and I hammered out of the mile high with minutes before the metro curfew. Got to that scale on 76 and the DOT informed me that my Colorado permit was not valid until midnight. So I took 10 off at that scale. No citation.

Hammered a load through Wisconsin and had to stop at that scale on 94 in Minnesota. Had some kid try to tell me that I couldn't see the cones he set up so he could write a ticket for me not having my extension mirrors on. I told him that I could see both cones just fine. He got pissy, but he left me alone. I stayed at that scale for the 10p-2am curfew, then got the heck out of town.

Pulled a load up 75 through Ohio. Was tired and hungry. Stopped at a pickle park and dropped the trailer. Went to a truckstop, got a shower and some groceries, even bought a knife ( it was a Petro...had a knife shop, can't remember where it was). Got up the next morning and guess who was waiting outside on the road? SmokeyBear. Sure was glad I dropped the trailer at the pickle park. Heck, it's their rule...can't do anything about it.

The eastbound scale at Banning is one of my favorites between LA and PHX. I usually have a CHP escort so I never worry about getting a ticket but if you do need to park there call the westbound side (its called "Lost Hills" inspection facility. They will know if any super loads need to park there later (sometimes we don't leave Long Beach till 10:00 PM and get to Banning at 4 or 5 AM).
BTW DO NOT try to enter the eastbound scale if you are over 14 wide. Go to the exit and cross the gore line to the right. I have done it with 20 wide and 150 long, plenty of room.

Westbound 10 Ehrenburg AZ scale is always closed and has plenty of room for anything you can get on the road. They never say anything, I've had loads sit there for a week without any problem.

Westbound 8 in Yuma has room when its closed and there is a mall a half mile from there. If you feel like walking you could see a movie and buy something you don't need.
