I saw a system similar to T/A at the Flying J in Frystown PA. About 10 spaces over in the corner with the signs in front of each space telling me to call DIBS on the space. Didn't know if it connected with the Idle Aire setup nearby, some sort of franchise, or a Pilot/Flying J thing.
Been waiting for this to catch on. The future of parking at truckstops. PAY.

I'm fine with paying to park as l have a guaranteed spot when I get there. Reserved parking at TA/Petro has saved my bacon a few times.

The new pilot on I 70 in eastern Illinois had about 20 spots blocked off with those signs, there's plenty of parking in that area and it really looked like a money grab

If you pay to park does that mean the truckstop is accepting responsibility
for the truck? You pay, they tell you where to park, doesn't that shift at
    least some liabilty the them?

The truckstops that require everyone to pay usually have a set limit.
If you purchase fuel or food, etc they will waive the parking fee. Can
your on-site purchases be applied toward the parking spot reservation?
I realize parking lots cost more all the time, real estate continues to go up
in price. My only problem with pay-to-park schemes is if I spend
money at that truckstop, as compared with the driver who buys
nothing, I should get a break on the parking fee.

frost12013 and 12 ga Thank this.

Thats ok, most loves are crap holes anyways. Just one more reason not to hit one up.

As for P and J doing it, in the east sometimes it would help out loads as I run a ref box and my delivery times can be late when I get out.

Yes, I have no problem paying for parking when there is NONE! im not going to roam around aimlessly for hours looking for a place to shut down when I can just pay and move on. Not to mention MOST times the carrier I am leased on to reimburses me for the charge.

I like the pay system. People who are not in the rush drive around and find free parking. People who are in dmergency need of parking can find spots late at night.

Well the die is cast. Can pay parking lots for trucks be far behind, in places like industrial parks and other logical locations? Will the State or Federal government jump in with grants and tax breaks to encourage this patten?. It will eventually be impossible to park anywhere other than designated truck locations, kind of like migrant farm workers are treated. 2nd class citizens.
The trend is obvious. The general public wants trucks to be quarenteened away from their day to day existence. They don't want us in the neighborhood. Deliver the stuff we want and go away. It is bad enough they have to share the road with us, and they are telling the legislators that has to be controlled.
So much for freedom. "May I have your papers please?"
