Hello all, I went to a terrible driving school that spent 5 minutes on teaching logging, so I have a logging question. If you are a part time driver and are only driving 3 hours a day 7 days a week, with only 1 hour each day of on duty not driving time, would you need to take a 36 hour restart at the end of 7 days? Thanks in advance!

Ah, no.
You are allowed up to 60 hours on duty in 7 days, or 70 in 8 days. At the end of whichever option you use, add all your hours up. Then subtract from the maximum allowed; that's however many hours you will have on the 8th/9th day after midnight to use.
ETA- There is no rule that one has to take a 34 (not 36) hour reset ever. You can perpetually keep using your "recycled" hours if that works for you. However many drivers choose to take a 34 so they can start off a full 60/70 hours.Spacat1 Thanks this. -
Thank you both, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure. I'm going to be working 7 days a week for the next 60 days and wasn't sure if I ever had to do a restart.

Edit: Only if he runs out of hours though.IH Truck Guy Thanks this. -
You would think for the amount of money the schools want that you would be able to master any driving job when you graduate. An impossible feat. The only thing the driving schools are concerned with is you being able to pass a driving test. And that test doesn't involve logging.
Imagine a school that did train you to be top notch drivers upon graduations. Imagine the screening process for the applications.

"How would you do that?"
Start with a better product. The schools, recruiters and bottomfeeders cater to losers. Hence the elogs, POS trucks, and all the handholding. I wouldn't be looking for losers, I would be looking for winners.
"How can you spot the losers from the winners?"
Losers are interested into getting into trucking because it looks easy. It's just driving right? How hard can it be? They gravitate towards the megas because that mega sent a recruiter to their school. They've never done anything worthwhile in life and never had to do anything difficult in life. They hate their lot in life and are looking to get in a truck and escape because in a truck, they can be alone. We see it every day.
On the other hand, you have the guys that retired from the military and LEO, or the schoolteacher. Or someone who was in another field that now wants to truck. That was me. I was a kid when I wanted to truck. It wasn't about the money, it was about the truck. Show me some work ethics.
Someone did a thread about being an ex-con, couldn't get a driving gig, but wound up taking a job at Carolina Cargo for a couple years and used it to open other doors. WINNER!!!! I like to see someone do that. Or the guys with missing limbs. WINNER!!! Making it happen. I would be 1000% in the corner of a student who could dig deep and visualize his dreams.Mudguppy Thanks this.
