    Hi,
Two questions here, do trucking companies hire part time drivers? There seems to be a lot of gripes about pay, is there or has there been an organized truckers union, seems like the country would stop very quickly without trucks on the road.

    Thanks

Teamster companies are allowed to employ non-union drivers. They often hire seasonal drivers through temp agencies, and in my experience, the temps earn a higher wage than the teamsters although they have no fringe benefits.

In the big cities, some drivers prefer to work as casuals without permanent employment by any company. They work for several different companies as "day labor". Perhaps, they draw unemployment in Florida during the winter.
