I am currently working full time in another field other than transportation. Is there any way of getting part time driving experience so I dont lose my driving skill set that I learned at truck school. I am not ready to switch careers totally yet.

    Thanks

Highly unlikely JD.You're going to have to go out with a trainer which is 6 weeks away from home.I would wait until you are ready to make 100% commitment to trucking.

Newly acquired CDLs can have a shelf life not much longer than a loaf of bread due to insurance industry dictating to trucking companies and government bounties dispensed to companies for taking on New cdl holders. Might wanna #### or get off the pot.

With out sounding as vulger as XLS (LOL) He's right. You have your CDL, give your 2 weeks notice and move on. If you spend to much time after you have your cdl before getting a driving job no one will hire you. Also, no one has part time class A driving for Newbies. Even if a part time position was available, with the high cost of insurance and training you, they need you to rack up the miles to pay off their investment in you.

Try a rent-a-driver company. Do some research to get names of these companies in your area. Trucking companies call them to furnish a driver for a day, week, month, weekend. Also check Careerbuilder website.

Try intermodal/drayage companies such as Comtrak. They sometimes use part time drivers to pull containers out of the ports to their yards or deliver them on short runs.
