Barnes Fleet Service in Santa Paula, CA. Willie Barnes and his guys are as honest and straightforward as they come. Highly recommend!

Like @TallJoe said. My mechanic might be good for me but might not work out for him.

I like to think and chose a mechanic that’s suited for the job. If it’s something to do with he Def system I really can’t trust anyone. But it’s let’s say a water pump or a kingpin or even a compressor I can trust a few people.

I’m starting to realize that it’s best to do it yourself and learn.

Yes sometimes it does seem that way, at least with auto mechanics which I have a lot of experience with (I have owned like 30 cars over the years and I tend to prefer slightly older luxurious/sports cars that are more expensive to repair). I am highly aware that often when a customer gets dissatisfied with a mechanic (perhaps even the majority of times), the dissatisfaction is due to something less important, for example that they didnt clean the car after having worked on it, or maybe that the repair took longer than expected. Or simply because they had to be the messenger telling them they need a major transmission overhaul (even if that is true). I can honestly say that I am not a difficult customer, all I am looking for in a good mechanic is that they are honest. Before and after visiting a mechanic I always investigate as much as I can, and that is how I know how often car mechanics are dishonest. Based on my experience, some of the normal car mechanics might be honest (maybe as many as 20%) but among speciality car mechanics here in Las Vegas (in my case Mercedes), there is less than two honest mechanics in this whole #### town INCLUDING THE OFFICIAL MERCEDES AGENT!!! I could write for hours about my experiences if anyone is interested in reading, including when my mechanic (one that I had consulted like 10 times before) incorrectly said my transmission was slipping and wanted to charge me $5500 for a new one (he said he was sure), but to keep it short, my point is that all I want is an honest mechanic. One that would NEVER scr*w the customer and try to trick him into doing some UNNECESSARY major overhaul even if it meant he would make $20000 in profit... REAL honesty is ALL I am looking for, not just some sweet talker with a firm handshake and a smooth tongue.

And my transmission? Did some googling and found out it was the conductor plates in the TCM that was causing the limp mode, so I had a place take it out and ship it to a specialist who soldered it for me, and the car worked well for 3 years after that, no slipping transmission! Ended up costing a few hundreds only.

@Chinatown can probably hook you up in Vegas...@Dave_in_AZ might have a suggestion in Phoenix. In South GA, Four Star Freightliner has been pretty good to me.
Everywhere else, it's kinda catch as catch can. The dealerships will hose you on the rates, but generally have competent, skilled people doing the work.
    Good luck.

I would recommend Las Vegas but lately the guy I use is starting to worry me. Good on older engines just not capable as an electrician or doing diagnostics on the newer motors.
