Since you either don't understand what you are talking about, or don't know how to ask a recruiter a direct question that they can't wiggle their way out of the truth...you need to be told how the training and pay works in this industry. And I will be glad to fill you...and others...in....correctly.
When in "training"....understand this term, it is important...training is after the student receives their CDL and is assigned to a trainers truck. During training, the student (new driver) receives basically a salary, a weekly salary...each training company has different rates, generally it a base fore the first section, small increase for each "section" of that given companies criteria. It used to be accepted that 6 weeks was the "norm"...so the first two weeks at (just numbers now, not actual, as companies differ)...the first 2 weeks at $425.00, the second 2 weeks at $500.00, and the final 2 weeks at $550.00. That is student pay, the trainer (the more experienced driver on the truck) gets his/her regular cpm rate, for the complete miles the truck runs.
With CRST, the "new driver" gets $0.22 cpm...after they complete training, and most cases, the CRST new driver has made arrangements for a specific person to be their "team mate"...also being a "new driver" this "team mate" is also at the bottom of the ladder in pay so again...$0.22 cents per mile.
If the truck gets 5000 miles for the week, the drivers will each get 2500 miles @ $0.22 cents per mile. The "split" is of the total miles, not the cpm pay of each driver.
Only during those first training weeks, will the new student be receiving estimated $0.11 (or better) cpm. This is figured by the base salary, divided by the required minimum miles they expect their "trainer teams" to accomplish...and advertised as a "base compensation". It's a bookkeeping gimmick...for tax purposes, and profit expectations.
And finally MMM...the first thing we learn in trucking is....NEVER BELIEVE RECRUITERS!
