I'm a newbie here and in trucking. At 47 I went to a trucking school (paid my own tuition as I had reservations about becoming an indentured servant) Signed with a company that would take a warm body and get me started (i.e. Swift).
I stayed my whole 6 weeks with one trainer and finished with no problems.
Got issued a truck and came home two days only. I wanted to be sure I had home time coming as the 26 of Oct was a date I must be home. With 4 weeks notice my DM said of course it would be no problem. I contacted him a week before to ascertain that the date was still on, again "No Problem" . You all can see it coming right? They leave me stranded and basically do not answer my QQ and if anyone worked for swift you know the phone is always hit and miss. I left voice mail for my DM and when I got no reply left one for Fleet MGR. saying I had a situation that needed his attention.
To shorten the story, I was ignored and by the time they got to me time was up so I asked them where they wanted the truck and took it there.

So I ended up a few weeks short of the magic 3 months. Am going to orientation with Paschell Truck lines next week. Does anyone have experience or advice to share on this company?

Driver, go to a truck stop and talk with other drivers, especially PTL drivers. They have a huge turn over rate! How many drivers were in you class? Times that by 2 x 50 weeks and that's how many driver they go through in a year! All for about 950 trucks. What dose that tell you:biggrin_25512:?

Driver ive talked to a driver with PTL not to long ago. He was on there regional side and said they got him home on weekends. I didnt have the time to talk more in depth with this driver but he did say he liked it. I will also say that no matter where you go your going to have up's and down's. I will say Swift did not hold up to there end of the deal with you, but it could happen anywhere and for many ways. The next time you need a day off start three days ahead telling them to get you toward your house.

You seriously can´t be making a comparison of swift to PTL! That´s like comparing North Korea to Iran!!!:yes2557: If you want to make a decision based on the word of one driver, be my guest, You will get what you deserve.:yes2557: There are too many companies out there for you to choose from. For you to just settle for PTL. A little ups and downs? They go thru thousands of drivers and in the last ten years tens of thousands!:biggrin_2555: Can all those drivers be wrong?:biggrin_25512: I don´t think so!:biggrin_25512: By the way, co. policy is they have have 5 days to get you home.:yes2557: I gave them 7 to 8 days. And you would have thought Texas had fallen off the map!:biggrin_2552: They still did not get me home. I hope you like freezing in the winter and sweating to death in the summer. I hope you like 1000 mile weeks. I hope you like being treated like sludge. I hope you love having your time wasted and being BROKE! :yes2557:If you do YOU WILL LOVE PTL!:yes2557:

    OK

Heres my take I lived for over 20 years about 15 miles from the MAIN HUB in MURRAY KENTUCKY ,
Never worked for them but my STEPDAD did here is my assumptions with his experiences.

    MY ASSUMPTIONS :

    1. They hord them in like cattle
    2. stay at a S####% hotel in MURRAY for orientation
    3. Seems to always be about roughly 75-100 mt trucks sitting on the yard there off hwy 641
    4. Seems like tons of trailers there not being used or WRECKED both
    5. They have lost lots of freight locally in MURRAY and now RELY SOLEY off BRIGS and STATRON to get outbound loads you may see a few PELLA WINDOWS RUNS out of MURRAY as they have a small plant there (the old MATEL TOYS PLANT ) which was a huge loss for PTL
    6. The PASCALLS whom still reside in MURRAY sold this business years ago and have NO dealings with it .. THEY will PTL try to sell you the family owned thing but its not true old man PASCAL sold it at least 10 yrs ago maybe more not sure
    7. Lots of the new guys I have seen at the WALMART stocking the truck with food etc (just 2 miles from the terminal) seem not to speak a lick of ENGLISH or very little at all ...
    8. They DO NOT have clean TRUCKS the ones you do see clean the drivers do on their dime
    MY STEP DAD :
    1. Drove for them for 6 mths (and a few days like 10 or so) SOLO
    2. AVG miles were 1475 - 1891 depending on home time
    3. One months wages from stubs
    10- 2008 WK 1 NET $ 346.18
    WK 2 NET $506.78
    WK 3 NET $ 477.11
    WK 4 NET $ 401.61

This was not from lack of work ethic but from lack of freight or utlization of equipment you decide if you want to be home he colud get home bout every 7 days for 2 no problem and he lived 26 miles from MURRAY .

Other wise they have some blue light or blue screen or highlight or something on the QQ for hometime after 7 days unless you request earlier once you highlight or whatever they have 7 days to get you home and you WILL SIT AND WAIT FOR A LOAD NO DEADHEAD

This is true take it for what its worth best of luck to you ...:yes2557:

Perhaps you should consider this when making the numerous reposts that you have made all over this forum saying the same thing. Ok,Ok....We get it PTL fired you and you're mad alright move along or you are still letting them "waste" your time. Or you could try posting an informative post like kentucky24 just did and add maybe a little fact with your opinion every now and then if truly your concern is the well being of other drivers. I think you're more concerned with slamming PTL then actually trying to pass info along that would be helpful to those considering PTL. To sum it up in one word, PRESENTATION.

I´m sorry but you don´t get it. This is not about PTL firing me. I´m glad they did. This is about putting as much info out there in as many places as possible. A new guy my not see one thread but see another. I want to make sure he has the info he needs. Also my worde along with the many others will confirm the problems at PTL. This is the only legal way for me to fight back. not only against PTL, but all companied that treat their drivers like crap! so excuse me if I am zelous. If more driver were maybe trucking wouldd be a better profession.

Also, if you know what I´m going to say Just move to the next writer. You seem very botherd about my slamming PTL. I could fill volumes on PTL. They are just reaping what they sowed. How do we know you are really a driver? There are some writers that seem like trucking co. staff doing damage control. Why else would you attempt to dimminsh another driver and dismiss his comments as if they were just sour grapes?

There are some writers that seem to be bothered by my onslaught against PTL. One has metioned that I could be sued for liable. Others have dinissed my writings as anger at being fired. You know that Spiderman has his little Spidy sense. That tells him somthing is wrong. I have what I call a little bird. You know... like a little bird told me, let´s me know when something ain´t quite right. And I´m usually sorry when I don´t listen. I´m not angry at being fired. In fact, in life when one door closes others open!:biggrin_25525: I´m sure that I´ll be just fine.:yes2557:Why would a driver be so worried about me being sued?:biggrin_2552: Why would a driver be so bothered about my ¨slamming¨PTL? :biggrin_2552: Could some folks on here not be drivers at all? Could there be some on here with the purpose of damage control? :biggrin_25511: Just a thought...:biggrin_25511:

Well , I can assure you that I am no, PTL supporter at all in fact the oposiite. I think the driver that challenged you is challenging you on the PRESENTATION of your attack on PTL, and not the fact you are attacking them or putting out information about them.

I guess in short dont seem so disgruntal and still get your point across. As stated in my POST, I NEVER worked for PTL but my step dad DID and I made my assumptions based on what I have saw first hand on the outside looking in versus the INSIDE with my DAD.

As the one driver said it is all presentation and not one liners (the same ones)

THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON YOU ...

Just trying to convey what the other driver was talking about in my words.

Absolutely. Just read their info....Truckers wife,Trucking industry, so on and so forth. See that's my whole point read a little bit before you just start posting crap and you can add maybe a little credibility to your statements. It is VERY obvious you do not read before you post especially if you think I'm not a driver.

Again yes, I hope we all can be damage control for other DRIVERS coming into this industry. But it is going to have to be done with something other than ranting with nothing but pure opinion and usually takes a little more than a newb to the forum with nothing of value or weight to add. The quickest way to gain atleast the illusion of knowledge concerning a subject "which is what you'll need for your post to serve the function you want" is to atleast read up a little where you're posting at. I am positive you have something for us to gain from you here so show it to us.
