Hi everyone I just passed my road test in NJ after being so nervous I didn't any sleep last night. I've got a question though. I start with a major carrier next week and I'm wondering about other people's experiences. How long does it take to get used to driving one of these menacing beasts!!!! I'm 45 but never been in a big rig before my school and I've only driven on the road for probably a total of 2 hours. Yard maneuvering is no problem for me but when I'm the road it feels like I'm on a freewheeling missile!!! Just looking for some feedback from anyone out there, thanks everybody! /////// P.S Anyone who forgot how weird it was ther first time driving one of these doesn't need to leave a stupid comment- these machines are truly dangerous and if u don't respect it that way I'm not interested in your opinion.
Passed my road test!!! New cdl driver

2 hours of drive time and you got your cdl. Sounds like the school I went to. You didn't go to Smith & Solomon did you?

good luck & congrats. you will learn to trust your gut instinct more & more with every mile you turn. never be in a hurry, dont run illegal period. that is your license, not the carriers. protect it like its your child. take no more than needed while training. except lysol or febreeze. if your trainer not doing right by you request another one. again, best of luck & safe miles

Shock Therapy Thanks this. -
The first six weeks without my trainer were very nerve wracking. Thoughts of quitting were constant. The next six weeks were still bad but not as bad with miles driven improving. After 12 weeks I felt like I had made it. I was 48 when I passed my road test and now I am 60.
born&raisedintheusa, Just passing by, Shock Therapy and 3 others Thank this.
