I am getting ready to go through cdl school and was wondering when i graduate if i will have a problem getting hired if i have a small hernia its a small groin hernia that you cant even see. I have had it for 8 years and hasnt gotten any worse. My doctor said not to worry about it if it doesnt bother me, i passed a dot physical exam 3 days ago.

Sounds like you answered your question.

If it is a small enough separation (which is actually what a hernia is) the finger poke will probably miss the target...but be careful, if who you end up working for does driver unloads, that could make the situation substantial instead of minor. Just info to watch for!

I hate this part of doing the exam....

I mean seriously...the D.O.T. hasn't set a standard for this. So...at what point do I make a disqualification or decreased time frame card? If someone has one in my office its usually small or moderate and not threatening and so has no impact of medical clearance at all.
My two cents....
Unless the hernia is so big its making you tilt to one side while sitting in your truck, it won't compromise anyone's safety.
If you know you have a hernia its always best to get a letter from your family doctor stating it does not impede your duties and give this letter to your next DOT examiner (do this for any condition you have). Its just easier...
