company rules and safe driving fly into the face of this logic. As i do not park or pull onto shoulders unless an emergency. Also I am not going to lock down onto my brakes in the middle of the big road to try to get into a backed up ramp. That just is not safe all the way around. Thus I will do the safe thing and by-pass due to full ramp. :) So what is that yellow light for any ways? Low battery light or something?

Yellow light, in theory, is for when your I-Pass pays a toll. Mine has never lit up. That is what was explained to me. I didn't even know they came with instructions much less ever see a set of them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Talked to DOT somewhere about it, heard it on Roaddog... they (DOT) want you to pull over onto the shoulder and go through the scales. Running the scales because of that unless you are directed to bypass - as you are in most states - may result in them chasing you down, ticket, fine, etc. And yeah, it is dangerous. The only place I can really think of that is that stupid is NC - and they can be really anal about such things.

well i am going to go over to our resident diesel bears thread and ask what he thinks about this situation and what the law states. as it is definitely not safe to slam on brakes and hit the shoulder due to a backed up ramp.

You shouldn't ever have to "slam on the brakes" approaching a weigh station - you typically have at least 1 mile, if not 2 miles notice. It would certainly be unsafe stopping on the roadway - and you can't just blow by the scales either. Get over on the shoulder and get in line.

I used to run out there 2 or 3 times a week and have been thru that scale only twice in 10 years. :biggrin_25525:

I refuse to stop on the interstate or the shoulder to weigh my truck on there scale. If it's backed out to the road left lane here I caome and throttle right on passed. I have never been bothered one time for doing it either. Sure there is a first time for everything and when that day comes I'll deal with it then.

To anybody that feels you should stop on the road or shoulder:

What happens when you stop on the shoulder or on the interstate to enter the scale and you get rear-ended by that idiot txt messaging or on the computer (or whatever other distraction you would like to insert here) and someone gets killed or even just injured? YOUR GONNA GET YOUR ### WAXED BY THE DOT,STATE POLICE, AND ANYBODY ELSE THAT CAN DO SO! Not me, but by all means go right ahead if you want to go in the scale that bad. Just remember if you slam on the brakes and stop on the interstate and get run over or run into and get charged don't come on here crying because you lost your job or livelihood because you did it to yourself.

The yellow light is to inform you that your Prepass/EZPass account is low on funds. So if you are driving a company truck, somebody at the office isn't keeping up with things, or you are about to need to find a new job!

:biggrin_2556:Okay this dont make sence too me, even before i leave the truckstop, they allready know what scales are opean by the cb , then when i get on the expressway again the cb know whats scales are opean by 34 miles or more in that circle , so why are you bypass or not slow down if you allready there opean, so sorry i say its driver fault with those 1200 galaxie radios , now i can see the drivers with no radio too ,but still your fault no matter what your trainer told you, if you see a line of trucks its a pretty safe bet there opean and the shoulder becomes the ramps, this all part of preplanning your trip far as i know all trucker atlas has those neet little red dots called weigh stations, so there really no excuse too blow em, myself i take advtange of em and use em like a rest area wether opean or not, why drivers are so scared of em i'll never know, :biggrin_25524: Everett.

I have only gone by one scale. Joliet ND. Was not paying attention and blew by it. Never turned around and just kept going. Got to my destination, unloaded and all was good.
