As mentioned, the doctors are pushing it more based on the unofficial recommendations above.

Yes, it is real as my wife has it and sleeps MUCH better with her CPAP machine than without it.

As to the automatic triggers at 17" and 35... Nope... I have passed three DOT physicals and if that were the case I would have had the sleep test too... Now age (50+) is another factor so I will get another point next go round...

As to the comment above that Drivers are now required to be physically fit... HA... Passing a basic exam hardly makes one physically fit.

Now, we all, especially myself, should do more to eat healthy and excersize ... That's a given.

    Rotflmao.

Have you been to a truck stop lately? The folks I see don't look like they've been to boot camp. More like reporting for a casting call for The Biggest Loser.

Don't judge someone by their size or age. At my last job I heard the comment from much younger skinny guys that the old fat guy was trying to kill them.

Judge someone by the way they work, not how they look. Seem that the bean poles are the ones that have the judgement isdues

No, it does not mean an automatic sleep test! Read the comments below, it is a recommendation only.

i think that is what i said, when i said, "it is not mandated".....

once (if ever) it becomes mandated, then we are all screwed.

This is absolutely true. I JUST took my first DOT physical and was told that because my BMI is over 34.9, I HAD TO take a home sleep study. So I took it and came in just a little bit under the threshold number of “apneas”, which is 14. I had 11. So I’m good to go for 2 years. However, if I don’t drop to 34.9 or below in that 2 years, I will be required to take another study at DOT cert renewal time.
But, I also dropped 15 pounds last week on the carnivore diet. Eat meat only, the fattier the better! No fruits, veggies, soda, sugar, preservatives, breads, pastas.....fatty meat only. You’ll find that you’re not hungry as often after about a week to 2 weeks. Oh, and week one ####s will be awful, expect to be cleaning the rim and bowl of the toilet after each use while your body adjusts and purges all the nasty from processed foods.

Get the CPAP equipment and start monitoring yourself.
Here's a website some drivers on here have used: www.rpmhst.com
At your next physical, if the doctor tries to fail you, show him the last 90 days on your own CPAP machine and he has to pass you if you're within limits.
