Well, know you now to pull in if there was a sign. If no one is there then walk back to the sign and carry it back to the truck. Stick one of it's legs into the DOT bumper and drag it untill it falls off. :D

Who knows. The sheriffs in the tiny hidden office were tacky enough to tell me that at least 10 trucks pass that weight station up daily as they wrote my ticket. Easy money for them

The State of Washington will contract with local authorities in rural areas. If it's an area without a full time WSP officer the county works traffic on a revenue sharing basis.
Nice deal for the county, no?

You give a good example to all rookies how not to do it if you inadvertently run a scale. I'm not busting your balls, just calling it like it is.

I ran a scale because of stupidity in '77 and got escorted to the local courthouse to pay $120 out of pocket on the spot.

About four years ago I was a trainer, with a rookie at the wheel, running southbound out of Lewiston, ID on US-95. We knew there was a scale on the four lane divided highway, but we didn't know it was in the median exiting off the left side. A slow passing car blocked our ability to get into the exit ramp. I had my trainee slow, get behind the car, then come to a complete stop on the entrance ramp with the 4-ways on.

Meanwhile I dialed 911, explained our situation, then got patched through to the local authorities. They advised us to get to the next turn around and go back to the weigh station.

We did that. Walked into the station with our permit in hand (you have to have a permit to run a 53' trailer southbound from Lewiston). The guy at the counter said, "I don't need to see your permit, you guys are good to go. As soon as I saw you pull over and fire up the 4-ways I expected the call that you were coming back. Have a safe journey."

Always pull over as soon as possible after missing that exit. Do the right thing and you are given the benefit of the doubt.

It happens in OR, they have signs before all the major scales and some on the small roads that say “Scale Bypass Photo Enforced”. I’m surprised WA isn’t doing the same by now, they already have all your info before you pull onto the scale ramp.

Another driver at my company got a red pre Pass light once at a scale that was CLOSED so he just went past. Nearly every scale he came to after that he got the red light, finally on officer in Indiana asked if he had been getting alot of red lights lately. And showed him that the prepass system had noted that he had ran a scale. Thus driver explained what had happened and was able to give the exact date, location, and approximate time it had occurred. The officer called the state it had happened in and was able to verify that the scale had indeed been closed, but officers had for got to switch the pre Pass scanner to reflect the same. Then officer inputed data into pre Pass system on LEO side of the system and corrected the issue. Driver finally was back to getting more green lights than red lights.

    You two make compelling positions.

I feel fortunate that there are Lions and Warriors here capable of standing up to me without misleading BS or some other crank lack of knowing. ( I do NOT MIND a little teasing now and then, it's not the problem.)

That happened to me also. I wasn't so lucky. Took 90 days for the red lights to go away...

Red is red and green is green. That all there is to it.

Green has some exceptions, but red is red.

Yep... The officer that fixed the issue for this driver told him if you get a red light go into the scale even if it is closed... Then just get back out on the road. There are scanners either in the scale area or on the road between the off and on ramps for the scale that will tell the system if you obeyed the red light signal to exit.
