When I first started driving in Oregon I got a red light on a closed scale, and went in anyway. There was a jerk DOT inspector there, and he walked up to my door and yelled "IF THE SIGN SAYS CLOSED DON'T COME INTO THE SCALE". Ever since then, I've bypassed the scales in Oregon if the sign says closed. Never had a problem.

Did this in Louisiana and pulled off on the next ramp and waited a few minutes. State Trooper rolled up and I gave him my story about missing. Thanks me for the intent and tells me to go on my way. Wheeew, huge fine if he chased me down.
