I don't consider myself an "old timer" yet but I do have a little bit of info for you.

I live in Los Angeles CA. I have no other experience in any other state. I do haul bulk HazMat in the L.A. area. Judging by the posts of others and the companies that are discussed here, I think that I am way ahead of the game. I suggest that you take the time to find a good tanker company. Please don't limit yourself to fuel and propane. Try to find a chemical distributor that deals with a variety of chemicals. That way, you will be well versed in many chemicals and the ways to off load them (pump, gravity and air).

I made just over $78K last year working Monday thru Friday and home every night. We can only work 60 hours per week. I challenge you to find any OTR company driver who has that type of schedule with that type of pay. Let me help you, it's not gonna happen. Good luck in your search.

In my opinion bulk hazmat jobs are the best out there. Out here on the east coast the gas hauler jobs are the ones to have with companies such as Hess or Sunoco. Hourly pay and the benies are top notch. The work schedules are nice to, 4 days on 3 days off although you start out nights and weekends but its worth it. If the workd there you can come in on time and a half on your days off as well. Hauling tankers is actually real nice work. Youll think you died and went to heaven compared to most OTR outfits.
    2fuzy Thanks this.

You say your in the L.A. area. I am currently in Michigan hauling Gas. 4 to 5 loads a day in the dregs of Detroit. Im new to trucking and a HAZMAT tanker is my very first driving job. I taught my self how to drive on the back lot of my previous employer. (Budweiser Dist) Well I took the test here in Michigan in an automatic and learned how to shift a 10 speed with You tube videos..Seriously my first day in traffic was at the head of a loaded tanker shifting a trans that I had never used, so I learn quick. I am a natural driver with the feel of the truck and weight from birth. lol I want to make a change to another city and L.A. would be a dream... What should I do to enhance my chances to make a move to HAZMAT in another state? Say California...

    Thanks Tony
