Just a question. Been through many company training programs with a lot of companies. Seen a lot of drivers disappear over the years for various reasons. So i'm asking a simple question, if many of the individuals throughout the course of time that signed up to drive trucks had been able to climb the the financial ladder, would it have made trucking across the board and time a safer industry. Does the FMCSA even look in to this as a factor when it comes to safety. Would all this CSA and government type enforcement's be needed if the trucking industry wasn't hammered by deregulation over time. We know some drivers are just bad, but over all can better compensation even at the low end save lives and and make trucking safer,it just something I've been pondering. What do you think ???

I think if a seasoned driver is paid well he will drive in a manner that will not jeopardize his job.
If his pay is determined by how fast he gets from point A to point B he will drive faster. If his pay is determined by how much product he delivers he will dodge scales and drive heavy. If the rate is high enough and he isn't greedy he will take his time and enjoy the ride.FEELTHEWHEEL Thanks this. -
Pay increase only stops the bickering. A bad driver is a bad driver no matter what. Inattention with texting and whatnot is the main reason death is on the rise.

Pay has nothing to do with safety. It is the driver who decides whether he will be safe or not. And for the record, the only thing that was deregulated in the trucking industry were the rates. We have more regulations today than before rates were deregulated. I think that fewer government regulations would make roads safer. If more regulations made roads safer then there would be no accidents involving trucks. Personally, I believe more regulations make roads less safe, such as the EOBR requirements. And as far as I know there have not been any government studies that compare driver pay with safety.

You can't buy common sense with money and common sense is what a lot of these drivers lack..

Would it make more sense to move this post to experienced drivers, they might have more to say about the subject. New drivers have a lot more to think about than just pay, but if its there it has to cushion the blow along the way. I feel like that makes common sense.
