It's not how far I'm willing to dig into my pocket, it's how far my customers are willing to allow me to dig into their pockets. I just pass my costs along.

apples and oranges, though i can see your point

    walmart doesnt charge its customers,

    some restaurants charge their customers

its like tipping, some trades get tipped, while others do not, its tradition

and tradition holds that trucks dont pay to park (except a few across the country) once a chain makes it their practice, others follow suit, and if your customer is not willing to pay you the extra (just like about everything else for a trucker) then you eat it

its sad that the places that are supposed to be "home away from home" are also looking at us as a cash cow (similar to many of our employers)

    when does it stop?

I'm not sure what is so difficult to understand here. Maybe the people who think parking should be free for everyone should build their own truck stop and pay all the taxes and someone to keep that lot clean and the electric bill for the lights on it and ALL of that, not to mention does the TS have to have that lot insured? I have no idea. So go ahead, open a truck stop and when drivers come in and don't spend any money, park there and leave, you get to eat the cost of that. Sound like fun yet? Asking for more regulation is anti-business and anti-American. If you don't want to pay THEN DON'T GO THERE. Guess what, if they realize they can make more money by returning it to free parking THEY WILL. Getting tired of people coming on here and belly-aching over such simple and meaningless things such as if a truck stop wants to charge money for a place to park. Get real.

I wasn't using Walmart as a example just stating a thought I had. But yes it's a businesses choice and right if they want to charge. But that doesn't mean I have to agree. Truck stops if they wanted to could charge just to come onto their property. I don't think that would be right. I'm willing to bet it would be more than just a few people who'll refuse to pay for parking not to mention the people who can't afford it. I don't park at any truck stop that charges because I don't think its right and that's my prerogative regardless of what anybody has to say about it. Truck stops are convenient and at times high priced but drivers still buy their stuff. I've seen quite a few drivers come out the truck stop happy about the 13 inch flat screen tv the just bought and paid $300-$400. They already make a fortune on the stuff they sell. But I could care less about them because they aren't hurting my pockets. I see one and keep moving until I get to a free truck stop.

Chill out. What I seen going on here so far are people stating their opinions and views. It was a pretty good discussion so far and hasn't even gotten nasty YET. Just because people don't agree with something doesn't mean they can't speak their mind. Don't like seeing as you call it people belly aching there are tons of other threads that'll interest you.

They make money on fuel, over price food and drinks, touristy crap, and everything else they sell. The only reason they added the reserve a spot is to make money on what they know is a bad situation. Its a captive audience, parking if already hard enough to find now you are losing 5-10 spots at these. If it was such a value why only roll it out at the stops that are known to have parking filled by 7pm sometimes earlier? Its not all T/A fault, I understand that alot of it is towns and counties not wanting large truck stops around. Same as when Pilot opens a new one with 30 spots, but acres of land all around. When you put up signs about being Home away from home, going the extra mile for drivers, and saying how much you care about the driver and then charge them to park, or take away spots unless they pay its a back handed slap.

imagine one day, having to pay for breathing like we pay for water

imagine paying to drive down your street and park your car

imagine having to pay for going to the rest room anywhere

imagine having to pay for absolutely everything that we now do not pay for, and society is accustomed to it and all of a sudden, MONEY becomes your god

man lived for thousands of years without this "lets profit off of every iota of life" that we seem to be gravitating towards

i remember when having a baby or going to college or being buried did not require a lifetime of savings, loans and credit ratings

i know we can debate this issue till the cows come home, but the reality is that this mindset is making us slaves to the dollar, which is never good for anyone or any society

my bank, one of the largest in the world, just stopped free checking and now charges $5 per month. Why? they are not in need, but only because they can. our food prices, electricity, gas, fuel, everything is going up and up and up, and our salaries are flat

    something has to change

Lol, that's funny! Autocar is probably out paying for another parking spot somewhere. Probably took some extra time to pull out of the free parking spot and get one of those reserved spots. I'm guessing the whole getting out to move the sign sucks since they haven't started charging 2 extra bucks to move it when you pull up. :)

you dont have to move the sign, they come out to move it, and move it when you are ready to leave.

they have about 10 of these spots at each location. thats it, its not the whole parking lot. i have used it i think 4 times now. actually its pretty dang good. you get in an area where parking tight have a late unload , or want to drive a little later and not worry about parking. just pony up 10 bucks and ya got it covered. you can even pay with your points.

its a choice, you dont have to pay. to me its just another tool, i will use it when i need it. if i can pay ten bucks and not worry about getting a park late, get closer to a delivery, not waste time circling a truckstop, driving across the road to another truckstop, etc. then i will use it.

look at it this way, how many ties have ya spent 600 bucks on fuel and couldnt find a parking spot? wonder how many of those trucks there came in parked, never bought fuel, went in took a crap, used toilet paper soap, and never spent a dime there??
