Hey Mike! I'm with you on this issue. Check out what a lot of these drivers have posted on this topic. Sad that so many can try and make the argument that this is a good thing for drivers. Really sad how a lot of drivers side with the Truck Stops on this idea. Same drivers would most likely get out and pay money to lick those boots. Smile thinking they are getting special treatment and you're just to cheap if you won't do the same. Not much chance of them understanding what's being given up for this idea. I enjoyed reading your Post. Take care out there.

Hello? Anyone Home? Of course they have rights to try and do their business the way they want. Not liking this idea doesn't in any way mean I'm trying to tell them how to run their business. Give us some credit before you use that line of Pre-Plan your trip crap. That's not the issue. Nice job of contradicting yourself on that statement as well. I get the idea why you pay. No need to try and sell the rest of that crap about what we have rights to do and how they do us a favor. I like many others have served to try and protect those rights. I get it. I'm not telling them how to run their business by not wanting to like this idea. I'm glad the truck stops are out here and I spend my hard earned money at them all the time. Just because I don't like this idea doesn't mean I want them to go out of business or something. I just don't believe this service is worth what ends up being given up for it.

I wonder why people keep bringing up their military service, in discussions about trucking? The only correlation I can find is my 5 years, 9 months and 14 days, active, is I was 64C30 in the Transportation Corp, which is a truckdriver. It hasn't a thing to do with paying for a space to park at a truckstop, or the price of tea in China.
As to this paid/reserved parking, like everyone else I don't like to pay, but I certainly know how this program works and see advantages to myself. By calling and reserving a space, with a credit card, you are guaranteed a space from 4 in the afternoon, until 3 the next afternoon. This is an option that I can use, at times.
I don't see this program going away, anytime soon, as a couple of the places that I have been to are starting to fill these spots, meaning that there is a demand for this service.

If you're tired, the lots are full and you just want to get some sleep - it works. If you're not so tired, and the Jefferson in your wallet looks better than the parking space - not so much. Kinda depends on your view of the situation at the moment if you ask me.

Yep, all boils down to personal choice.

There won't be any choices if you guys keep applauding the pay to park idea.

Yea right! Plenty of places to park free, even at the truckstops with the reserved parking program. Ya just got to get there early enough to get a free space.

I have plenty of drops after 1800, so what's with the get there early crap? If we all drove bankers hours we would have serious issues with getting anywhere, including the truck stop. As I said, go on and keep supporting the money grab in the name of capitalism...the math will be simple enough for ALL the truck stops (50-100 spots × $12.00 × 365). I'm sure you'll be congratulating yourself when we're all paying...but with the same results - A SHORTAGE OF PARKING SPOTS!

There has been a shortage of truck parking for years, especially in the high traffic areas. Figure another $12 per day into your rate, to pay for the parking, then deduct that $12 from your taxes and it's a wash. It's a no brainer.

I think it's time to take a poll on how many of my fellow drivers were dropped on their heads at birth....
