I was just hoping to get some initial information about this
    1. Areas most trucks are independently owned (if there is a concentrated area)
    2. How rising gas prices have affected your paycheck *preferably woman truck driver, as I am a woman* but either works :)

I am an o/o leased to a company. When the fuel prices go up so does my fuel surcharge and with the compant discounts I can save as much as .50 per gallon.

A little more on that . Here is the FSC formula . http://www.hillcountryhotshots.com/q&a.htm . Many carriers use the standard government formula . Carriers like PRIME and hotshotters with smaller trucks getting better fuel mileage than the mpg use in the formula see increased profit as fuel prices rise .
I knew one hotshotter that used the FSC as a selling tool . He showed shippers how he could charge a lower FSC because he used less fuel than a bigger truck (while other hotshotters could but didn't reduce the FSC) .
Hower , the FSC is almost always only applicable for loaded miles . It doesn't help when running empty . Also some expedite carriers have offered preferred customers "discounted " FSC's . This thievery . Expedite carriers don't own trucks . The O/O should get 100% of a full FSC .

Who told you that diesel was just a byproduct of gasoline?

Both are among dozens of products produced when distilling a barrel of oil. A byproduct by definition is an unintended product, both gasoline and diesel are deliberately produced primary products.

There was a time when gasoline was an unwanted byproduct of distilling kerosene and they would just burn it in open pits to get rid of it. Back then you got what you got in the products produced when distilling a barrel of oil but now days chemists can manipulate the carbon chains and get more gas or diesel vs a lubricating oil out of a given barrel if that is what they need for an example.

I agree and the price should also rise if the load is heavy because you're using twice as much fuel are'nt you?
