But you don't see the well trained monkees being defiant, ignoring and passing the buck on repairs, looking for all the wrong shortcuts and all around have that me, me, me attitude. Sure anyone can drive a truck. But not everyone can conduct themselves in a professional manner. Some of these drivers.... that's why they sell banana's in the truck stops! :biggrin_2559:

Be careful. Some trucking companies don't hire people unless YOU owe THEM $. And whats wrong with buying bananas at truckstops?

Here is how I decided that I'm going to apply to Roehl.

The local college cost is between $1400 and $1500. Private schools are $3000 to $6000 or I can go with a company school (Roehl) and then work off the cost of training.

I figure if I went with the right college, private school, or company that the training should be about the same so since I know nothing about driving a truck or the industry then why not go with a company school. The biggest factor for me is all my bills. I need to save up enough money to cover my bills while I'm training. If I went to the local college I'd have to save up enough to cover 3 months or more. Private schools or company training I only need to have 1 to 1-1/2 months covered. So until I'm ready to quit my current crappy job and move forward with trucking I can study the CDL manual and gain as much knowledge from the experienced drivers as possible and learn from newbies mistakes.

I think whether you go to the college, private school, or with a company the most important thing to do is research that place and make sure that the teachers or trainers will teach you right so you and those around you come home alive.

The local cc is just that local...you could sleep , eat , and stay at home during your schooling....only cost to you would be time and a little gas money , maybe lunch and a snack..which you could carry from home....cc Even offer weekend classes in some areas , so you would not have to quit your current "crappy" job....it would only take a little longer.

There is only 1 college in my area and seats are limited and classes are only offered Monday thru Friday during the day. All the good private companies are the same and are double the cost. If I was to stay local then I'd still have to quit my "crappy" job.

I've looked at all options and for me, going with a company like Roehl is more cost effective. Besides, I really like what I'm hearing about them and for someone new to driving a truck, Roehl seems to make safety a big part of their program and not just helping you get your CDL.

You have to do what's best for you. If you explore all the options and roehl is the way to go, then by all means, go for it and good luck to you. I hope it works out for you.

I agree with these guys, The company way would be easier, but do research on the companies and make your own choice.

The "contract " is one sided . The carrier is under no obligation to keep the driver employed . If they find any excuse to terminate the driver before the year is up the driver gets no certification for training , gets billed several thousand dollars , and gets a negative DAC report .
