Biggest myth in the trucking industry . Somebody should do a survey of how many drivers complete a year with a starting carrier each year and how many actual openings come available with carriers requiring a year experience . Anywhere ? Many carriers require more than 2 years experience .

Thats why you have to do what your told its a job not a hobby. How is it one sided if they get you your license give you a job and pay you for working? Do we now live in a world where the employer kisses the employees behind?

That would be interesting to see. That's why after what tony and others said, I did more research on schools and not sure how I missed one called Katlaw near my home that has weekend classes available around $3,000 which I can do and still have money coming in until I get on with a company.

The more research I do and the more comments I read the more my future changes. Not that I can't still go with Roehl but now I'm not held hostage to any company which does sound better to me.

    Easier said than done.

I went to the only CC that offers a driving academy in my area. The guy told me that I qualified for a grant in the initial talks. When I filled out all of the papers, I didnt qualify. I then went to financial aid and they said the course falls under the continuing education and continuing education didnt qualify for financial aid. In other words, I was going to have to pay my tuition in cash.

I would recommend the community college route and if that doesnt work personally I would rather go to Stevens or one of the training companies. Just read the fine print in the contract before signing.

It happens to the best of us. I would still swear by at least exploring all my options, and make sure that its a dead end road before I went with plan B. In the end, you have to do what's best for you. With the original question in mind, I still say explore all he options. Personally speaking, I don't want to owe anything to anybody. I'm a big boy. If I need a loan for any kind of schooling, I'm going to a bank or getting a government backed student loan. I'm not taking money from an employer. It's modern day share cropping if you ask me.

What I said was a myth was your statement that with one year experience you could get a job anywhere . Go ahead and bill me . I'm not paying . File a complaint with OOIDA .

Find out what percentage of trainees complete the year then say it's not a 1 side contract .when a carrier with 5,000 drivers doesn't increase its fleet size but has to replace 5,000 drivers a year it indicates a large percentage don't complete the year .

So what...Do you base your performance on others? I have all ready proved your point was wrong..Who cares what others do I am my own man I suppose it a lack of maturity when someone makes a contract with a company then breaks it only to complain and blame others for their lack of ability to make a job work for them.Just because a company pays and trains you it does mean they have to baby you through tbe learning process it's like any other job learn quickly or pay the price it wouldnt matter what job you have if you suck at it the company will fire you or starve you out so you will quite, just because a company has a high turnover rate doesn't necessarily meant they do bad business anybody can make any job work for them but if you come in saying this company pays x amount I deserve that x amounnt then your doomed to fail... Go into the military and tell them you refuse to comply you will find yourself in the brig or out the door.We are all adults take resposibility for your actions if you hire on knowing how the pay rate or rules are deal with it or take your blanket and go home already....
