Sweet Baby Jeebus on a pony you've certainly asked a question that will get people all emo and cranky.

We team and we feel we make good money.

Now, you'll hear others say that it's only because we're a married team. That irritates me.

It depends on many things and the first issue is who you work for and how they pay teams.

In our case each driver is paid per mile and the miles are combinded miles. Thus we both get paid for every mile the truck "works". However the per driver cents per miles is less than a solo. So thus some think the team is being cheated.

Frankly I think the rate per mile per driver should be a bit more but I also see where I'm being paid for the miles my partner runs as I sleep.

I've probably confused you. lol # myself

Teaming is only worth it if its all going to one household, Like a Husband and wife team. In that case you can make some good money. There are lots of threads on here about it. I'm sure some team drivers will come by and can give you some more specific info.

otr vs local driving pay on page 2 of experienced drivers. lol go read it for urself, maybe i missed something. but it seems local payed more than a solo otr driver. then i started wondering if an otr team made good.

My brother drove team for Yellow for about 10 years. He made between 68k to 78k a year. He was out 4-6 days a week. Most of the runs were from KC to Portland, SF, LA, and back. I always made decent money going OTR, or a lot better then what I make now. The only thing about what I do now is that it combines everything I like, trucks/chainsaws/woods/farmland and I'm home most nights or days to be with my son, however when I work, it's 14-18 hours shifts 5 days a week and and I only take home about $500 a week.

I'm with Redd on this.......you can't just believe there's no money in OTR because a few people say so. There's also people who say Elvis is still alive.

I want to add that being OTR doesn't mean that you live in poverty... As you may believe from reading some of the things on this website.

Being OTR has been quite good to me.

It bought both my Harley's (at the same time)

    It bought my mini-van

    It bought my Camaro

    It bought my Jeep

    It bought my house

It paid for 3 complete cross country moves

It pays well enough to replace not only my wardrobe, but both my children's wardrobe every year.

It pays well enough to cover my monthly bills... and on time

It pays well enough to re-model my house

It pays well enough to allow me to go on vacation.... To a location other then sitting at home.

It pays well enough to cover all my kids extra-cirriculiar school activities

It pays well enough to go do things like catch a show or go out to take my family out to eat when I'm home (not only do I take my kids, but my mother, sister, her husband, & their seven kids.)

It pays well enough to where I don't really have to worry about anything. If I want it, I pretty much got it.

At this time I'm an O/O. But that is a new venture for me. Only been doing it 15 months. The other eight & half years I was a company driver grossing between $53,000 to $60,000 a year. What does your current job pay?

I should add that I am the sole provider. There is no other income coming into my home. and I'm currenty supporting 3 plus myself. At times other family member wonder in when they need help....
