So, in reality, are most of the loads you get over 300 miles so they can pay the lowest mileage rate to the drivers?

Truck companies do what's in their best interest, the sooner you realize it the better. Of course they give you just enough to keep your beak wet but no get rich quick schemes.
-
Actually just wondering how anyone with common sense can't/won't look beyond the "44cpm" and realize that probably will never happen?
-
It will happen sometimes. My first week out with them I got 3100 miles and the last few loads were short quick hops as they routed me home (the didn't have this pay scale at the time so I got 28/mi)
-
it' don't matter who you work for.
a load UNDER 300 miles is going to be rare. and even more rare with a training company.
also figure that it's a produce company. which means sitting around A LOT. that 300 mile load could easily eat up 24 hours. out of the weekskyviper73 Thanks this. -
Guess that's how they get the drivers that see something like to apply/go to orientation without doing any research first. Kinda blows my mind that you see alot of posts on here that read "I am attending orientation with XYZ. Can anyone tell me about pay, benefits, hometime, etc.?"
-
Amazing with how low the pay is people STILL sign on. WTF!!! Why would you work for peanuts, sliding pay scale for a company driver. Please tell me why you work for 300 bucks a week
-
It's because a lot of people have some fantasy of driving a big truck and not realizing what its all about. Of course anyone is entitled to do what they want with work but these big companies use these people's naive attitude for their own benefit. When people resize this, them and only then will companies need to pay a better rate to their workers including people in the experienced category, this also can be said about taking loads too cheap, yes you got the load and your going down the road but did not make a thing! You allowed the broker to understand o/o are willing to work at such a low rate and until we all realize this and are on the same page trucking will continue to go down the hill! Just my two cents.

Quite often, the drivers are probably beginners just starting out and they need both the money and practical experience to go onto much better paying truck driving jobs in the future.

I did it because I was flat broke. They helped me get my CDL. I learned to drive with them. I moved on to a better paying gig.....It works for some of us believe it or not. I will always be grateful to central....Other companies shot me down because of employment gap....They gave me a shot and I worked hard to be safe and drive my 500-600miles/day. Starter companies are a way into the industry. YES the pay is low, but if you play your cards right you gain experience and move on to better gigs.
ladyfire and channelingmyself Thank this.
