I didn't realize you're in and around Tampa. Do you live in Tampa? Would you buy a used truck from Arrow or Freightliner of Tampa? Are there any other local ones I should look at their inventory?

Oil samples will catch a problem, sometimes before a catastrophe, Having said that, I’ve only done 2 since I bought this Truck 11 yrs ago. Lol 1 st one at apron. 150k after an OH, last one about a year ago at aprox. 1 mil. Amazingly both were almost identical.

I only wrench when freight is slow. In 15 and 16 i could make almost as much rebuilding local guys detroits add i could trucking. But today's freight rates are much better so id have to charge an amount I'm uncomfortable with, and i won't do that. Besides, im pretty sure there are forum rules against soliciting here and offering you do yours for x $ sounds an awful lot like soliciting.

Honestly tho a 12.7 is extremely simple. If you've ever done a small block Chevy you can easily do a 12.7. If you've ever turned a wrench you cam do it. Seriously its that easy. I could probably walk you through it here. 3 special tools you will need, the injector height and that extra deep 12 pt 12mm socket for the rear rocker arm nut. You should have those anyway so you can run your over head. So then the only thing you need to buy is that triangle shaped one that holds the cam gear in place to prevent it from falling. You could also get a liner puller but a bottle jack and piece of steel cut to fit works just as well.

Then why do you think you need an inframe? Excessive blowby? Excessive oil consumption?

interesting. Surprising, the Lycoming (airplane engine) representative told me in a class last year, "if you can work on a VW engine, you can work on your lycoming". Wow, pretty cool. It just so happens, I have a VW engine apart on my table for 10 years now. New parts in the box. Shiny object syndrome.

For sure my ol' sailboat friend could help me then, he's a decent mechanic but says he doesn't mess with semi engines.

I don't have a truck yet, so nothing to rebuild yet, except the pto on my international farm tractor (loud golf cart). I tried doing my Yamaha starter clutch and its now apart on my kitchen table for two months, because a couple of the pins and springs in back fell into the case or somewhere where I don't know. Can't buy em! That's me as a mechanical clutz.

Excessive blow by, but I can live with that. It’s got at least 1.2 mil on an OH done at 825. I plan on keeping for maybe another 10 yrs. Rather do an inframe. Some time next year. It won’t last long at this point. Tempted to do rods and mains, till it starts pushing water or oil. But it really needs a nice OH.Upgrade the turbo and a good tune.

Thats only 400k. Not even at the half life point. Are you doing oil samples? If so you got nothing to worry about.

Lol Let Me clarify, I have approx 2.1 mil. on Truck, 1.2 mil on OH. Original bull gear, starter, rears, front end parts, slowly rebuilding everything. This week clutch, rear cover, rear main. Next project will be front cover, bull gear, radiator. Hoping it holds together meanwhile.
