I have a class a cdl with passenger endorsement. I also went to school for it about 14 months ago. I currently drive buses for the airport and make 12.00 hr. But i am looking into going otr byt i want to know is it worth driving otr if i have to pay 700 dollars a month in child support? Will i even make enough money to survive on the road since i have no tractor trailer experience and will probably have to start off with a mega carrier?

A guy, let's call him fred, knocked up a chick when he was 62 years old, positive paternity test. Was retired- BIG pension, didn't need to work.
See him 5 days a week now.tracy214 Thanks this. -
I've been driving otr for just about a year, started at the bottom. I have five more years left at $600/month for one...lol. It takes a bite out of the check but I have more than enough left to live on. I keep my home expenses to a minimum and stay out for longer periods. After three months when my insurance went into effect they added on the kid so that added to the amount. By that time the income also started to increase. I will 100% agree with Packrat....I do the same, go where they tell me and don't complain. It's like any other job, it has it's moments but generally I really do appreciate the fact that I am given assignments and then left alone to get them done. Sometimes its easy, sometimes more challenging. take your time and do your research. I applied and had offers at Swift, Prime, and Roehl...ultimately chose Roehl and in retrospect it was by far the correct choice for me.

Thus if you're truely an American you will totally understand how messed up the FOC system is. Until you are actually involved in it, you cannot really appreciate the madness.
Truth is, in my opinion, my child reaps very little benefit from the "government" arranged system. For the most part, I quit seeing her a few years ago...it became a pain in the butt to arrange.
She went from living in a nice owned home to living in her mothers rental apartment or house...she has moved 3 times in the last 6 years. She changed schools twice and last i heard she is now attending online school.
to me that doesn't sound like a good deal for her but the government is all for this. They say it's the best way. Haha just like healthcare...they can do it better.tracy214 Thanks this. -
Look at my situation.
Aside from paying her that $140.22 a week, I also pay the cellphone bill (under contract until mid 2014), ATT Uverse so my kids can have internet and TV, insurance on both vehicles including renters on the duplex my "baby mama" and daughters live in, and payment on her SUV. Even after all that, I still have enough left over to survive on.
It's really all in how you budget. I spent $70 in groceries the other day preparing for my next trip out. I managed to make a weeks worth of breakfast burritos and barbecued ribs for my trip. Plus froze some pizza slices from Little Caesars. Also milk for the cereal I already have on board. I put my refrigerator and RoadPro food warmer to good use.
I get at least Platinum status at Love's every month so that's unlimited drink refills. I rarely pay to fill my drink jug. Plus I'll use points if I want something to snack on from the roller deli.
I could easily drop double that $70 or more eating at the truckstops.
Right now I don't pay rent on a place and stay in a cheap motel when I'm in town. Found a decent one here in El Paso that runs $30.95 plus tax a night. All I need really is a bed and a toilet at this point.luvtotruck and tracy214 Thank this.
